Well the gen 1 does run warm but i have never had it over heat .. I live in FL and it's HOT as Hell in the summer as you know and none of the zx14 owners i know ever had a problem.. Now if you live in vegas and it's 120 in the shade and you are stuck in traffic you are on your own ...

Same here, it blows off a bunch of heat in traffic but never gets close to overheating. I also went to a zx10 fender which dropped temps 1 bar or more. I ride all year in Fl. & as Lee says it gets fuggin hot in the summer.

Have to throw in with Smokin and zixxer14. I am also in Florida and routinely ride in 90+ degree temps during the summer. NEVER had any issues with my '07. It also had a pipe from day one, but it never hinted at overheating regardless of where or how I rode it. For sure it ran cooler on the open road, but Leo Vince pipe and Mobil 1 and I never gave it a 2nd thought.

Is your bike stock or modded? A good full exhaust does help to reduce engine temps versus stock. That said, the 14 does throw off a good bit of heat when running which might not be a bad thing riding when your riding in cooler weather, if you do. Good luck with it bro and welcome.

Another FL resident here, also ride all year round! Mine is sitting outside now waiting for me to get on after work and head home! I am running it naked and really enjoy how cool it runs but with the body work on covering the engine as well as all the rubber engine insulation I'd install a second fan if I could. Not because I'm worried it will overheat because it won't. But I'm liking the way the 2012 is done so to push the hot air away from your bike and legs. When mounted the right leg gets really hot because there is no fan on that side of the radiator to push that hot air away. It would be a good product to fab so you could mount dual fans behind the radiator. Currently it's only setup for one and you have to fab something to get dual fans on the Gen1.

Leo, it is stock Ive only had it for about a month now. I dont mind the heat on my legs Im used to it from the gixxer I had I just was worried about all these horros stories I seem to run across about boilovers and overheating. I love the bike already I want to enjoy riding it and not have to stare the temp gauge down all summer lol. All the responses I have gotten on this post seem pretty good tho so Im not too worried. Trust me exhaust is gonna be one of my first mods. the RPG launchers have to go! Thanks for the welcome Im damn glad I bought this thing. All you florida guys are making me think i need to move there Redline is talking about getting home and riding and im sitting in 30 degree Ohio lol. Suck!

Your welcome bro. 12 month riding season is a major...plus down here. Trade off is you...will ride in the rain potentially..alot in the summer months which I personally don't mind. You will see difference with the temps once you install your pipe as the RPG's as you call them, make the bike run hotter. Full synthetic oil (Mobil 1 in my case) helps as well.

Good luck bro,

Leo

P.S. This might help you with your choice of exhaust for the 14 (courtesy of Wheelie who posted it a little while back)
