Well, I got the bike out again today. All I can say is WOW.

It is THE ONE.

Before I took it out, I talked to Brock about break-in. I usually just ride the bikes normal, with some wot and engine breaking thrown in. But, I had heard that running them hard early-on might be the hot ticket. That seemed to be what Brock had in mind. He also pointed me here:

http://www.brocksperformance.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=933&KW=break%2Din&PID=3902#3902

I read through all the info, and coupled with his advice, I decided I would twist the bikes tail today! I know that some folks do follow factory advice religiously when it comes to break-in. Let your conscious be your guide.

Now, being that this bike makes a lot of speed, I didn't want to break any laws. So, of course I went to a closed-course testing area before I let it loose some. Safety first. Well, let me tell you, when you do it....HOLD ON TO YOUR HAT!!! Lee reported that it pulls strongly to redline....well, that was an understatement! I nearly tagged the limiter, going uphill....IN 4TH GEAR! I caught the shift at about 11300 indicated.

If it seems like I am excited, it is because I am! This bike is just a whole new level of power for a showroom stock machine. As you know I just traded in a showroom stock 2011 Busa. Best choice I've ever made. The Busa was nice, but felt harmless in comparison!

I also played with the traction control a little. It seemed to me that the level 1 setting did tame the bike down a little in 1st gear. It will still easily lift the front wheel, but you have to get more aggressive to get the same results. Again, that is just my "seat of the pants" impromptu testing. We will probably learn more as time goes on.

A FOLLOW UP NOTE ON LOW-END RESPONSE....

Another area I had mentioned was that the secondary throttle plates seemed to soften the bike down low. Well, don't get me wrong....it stil has strong response. In fact, the front wheel lifts up easily from just a few k rpm. I played around a little with it in my driveway, lol. No room for big wheelies, but I wanted to see how strong the response was from very low rpm, with the bike at perhaps 25 mph?:

So, don't worry too much about those throttle plates for now. The throttle response is still very strong! 41 miles showing on the odomoter now....

Shane

It's looking more and more like a new "build" thread is almost inevitable. I am getting the itch to do some mods already, lol!

Another thing I love about the bike is that it is very "familiar". If you've worked on 14's a lot, you will feel right at home.

Everyone seems to love the black paint. The flake is very fine, beautiful. In the shade it is just gloss black:

In my honest opinion, Kawasaki didn't hype this bike enough. A lot of people are going to think it is just a mild upgrade, which couldn't be further from the truth...

But as I say, the fact that they could use the basic ZX-14 foundation, that tells you that they did it right back in '06!

Nice pics!

And I enjoy doing business with the folks at Cherry Hill too. Bought my Connie and rode it to FL in the 27 degree February weather up there, good times.

Brocks said to me the bike is very " deceptive " I find that very true , It powers up so smooth , pulls so hard and fast to redline that you are unknowing that you just out rode your skill levels ...

Shane:

Great feedback for those of us still watching and not yet...riding the 14R. Getting mine in 2012, but I have been following closely, all the feedback from you, Smokin, Wheelie, Seno and everyone else in the 1st wave of 14R ownership.

Very cool pics bro,

Lee what do you mean by "just out road your skill levels"

Is the bike THAT hard to launch SWB?

Also what is Petron?.................is that clean the injectors?

Not just yet. I want to do some other mods, and I am waiting to see what Guhl comes up with on the ECU. There might be a non-intrusive solution?

I am sure it is a kick in the ass with those flies out!!

Shane can you give a rough estimate of what mods you have in mind?...........I'm thinking 47mm TB's would be a great starting point.

Also how hard was it to launch SWB...........did you have trouble using all the power or could you tell right away how beastly it was and it made the Gen 1 feel like a toy?

I’m writing my full press intro story for dragbike.com as we speak, and when in the journalist seat, I feel it’s my duty to be as objective and non-bias as possible…

Yet sentences like “The new 2012 ZX-14 will simply slap the taste out of a Gen 2 Busa’s mouth in an apples to apples side by side comparison” , keep popping into my head?!

I hope new owners follow my break-in procedure if they want their bikes to run their best. Just refrain from bouncing off of the rev limiter and riding like a jackass and your chances of hurting a stock engine are VERY small. Believe me when I say that many of our SuperSport bikes go from the crate to the dyno to the drag strip in a matter of less than 25 miles all total and will have our full synthetic in them before they hit the water box.

Right now, my prelimary mods list:

Brock's CT Pipe
Lowering links/Strap
Some weight loss items
Maybe my BST wheels
Alisyn <<0 Wt Oil and Petron Additive

As far as launching it, I haven't tried. It's cold out here (traction), and I hate stock height bikes. I bruised my chest bone running 1.8x short times on my bone stock Gen 2 Busa. Not interested in a repeat of that!

On the street, where most people ride these bkes...you will know as soon as you grab a handful. The Busa is no match, stock-for-stock.

I just ordered one of these exhausts, a CT Meg:

I also ordered the window links, <<0 wt Alisyn oil, and Petron additive.

Brock's is currently offering a package deal on the CT exhaust, window links, and front strap kit:

http://www.brocksperformance.com/Performance-Package-ZX14-2012+I825140+C289.aspx

Anyway, I've been wanting to try the CT Meg. I like the looks of the shorter pipe, and it let's me ditch the heavy exhaust hanger. With any luck I will have the exhaust installed by next week. I'd like to get 100 miles or so on the bike before then. I am also trying to get some dyno time set up, but my work schedule might not cooperate....

Shane , since you are the only one to have both a 1530 stroker and a 14r , are you going to be able to have them both dynoed back -back to see the difference between the 2?

comparing my runs to what Seno posted , it " looks" like I have just abit more torque to 9500 rpm... but I am using stock cams and a mild hand ported head... So i thought your 1530 motor would be a better comparison.

That is a possibility. My stroker motor is full-race, from cams to compression...the opposite end of your mild build-up. But still, I think it would be an interesting comparison? Probably a few months before that could take place. That will give some time for 14R parts/development.

On a different note, I did get an exhaust in for the 14R today...but I am sick with what feels like the flu. I really want to do some back-to-back testing on the 14R, but it is going to be tough to do with this sickness and the holidays.

Guys, the CT Meg exhaust system came today. It is gorgeous and very light:

Health permitting (flu?), I have dyno time scheduled for Monday. I might also kick off a new "build" thread then? I am very sick, so if I can't get it done on Monday, I will do it as soon as able.
