-First 14R Riding Impressions, Misc -

I was able to get the bike out briefly today. It was 22F this morning, and I waited until it reached 35F before I took it out. I really want to ride on Tuesday when it will be in the 50's and the bike temp will stay steady.

Before i took it out, I inspected a couple of things. Here is the new air cleaner, compared to a BMC Race for a Gen 1 14:

Here is the new, and quiet, CCT:

I like the black in the sun:

Piling on the miles:

Other technical details noted were that the frame is definitely different up near the steering head. The brake rotors look the same, there is a just a small disc bolted on each right-side rotor, which is for the wheel speed sensor.

As for riding impressions, remember it was a short ride. I only briefly took the bike to 8k rpm, and around 120 mph indicated. It feels very strong, but I can also feel the secondary plates holding it back at low rpm, as Lee noticed. Overall the bike feels very smooth, muscular, and refined. My impression was that it felt like it was in one gear lower than it was, when compared to the Gen 1 14. It feels much, much lighter than the Gen 2 Busa that I traded off. It conceals it's weight well.

Anyway, that's it for today's ride. Short and sweet.

Nice, now replace those ugly mufflers. I like the new guages, temps instead of lines is a big plus. Any Idea if that cct will fit the old bikes?

No idea on the CCT? And yes, soon this bike will have a Brock's exhaust. Working some extra hours to put a system under the tree.

I guess for now we pull the screen off the factory air filter like we did back in 06 before the BMC and K&N came to market ..

Shane is 100% correct ... Second gear in the Gen 2 feels like first gear in the old Gen 1 ... I did something stupid the other day and for get to down shift coming to a stop .. I was playing with the TC and forgot to down shift .... I was in 4th gear at the stop sign , so i took off in 4th gear and the bike just drove off like nothing was wrong .... not even a wimper, it just drove off ..

Yeah for those with stock suspension not lowered or stretched short shifting first will be common.

They did cut me a deal. I am a repeat customer. Call John, mention that "Shane from Bikeland" referred you, and ask about a discount.

I haven't decided yet. If there is enough feedback, I will do it.

Also, only one set of injectors on this bike. Didn't see a 2nd set in the rats nest, but cofirmed only one set via microfiche.

This is why we need a build thread, lol. I spent the last 2 day reading all 78 pages of the last thread.

I'd love to do one. But I am waiting for more feedback. It is a lot of effort weighing things, taking pictures,etc..I think my last thread had over 1000 pictures. And I took 3000+ pics in the process.

I allways check Cycle Worlds ads on E-Bay.They seem to have the best prices.I bought my 09 Monster from the Extreme Cycle group on E-Bay for $10,200 in 09 brand new. They have stores in Oh,Wv and Pa where I bought mine. The CW shop you mention is only 325 Miles from me.I went out and started mine to keep the battery up.It was only 34 so I didn't ride.Maybe Tuesday when it's in the fourties.

You know there is a ton of demand for a build thread like your old one, hell just look at all the views. But we all understand you have other stuff going on both with bikes and life in general. And thanks for the tons of information you have shared with me personally and the community thus far.

Well, I got the bike out again today. All I can say is WOW.

It is THE ONE.

Before I took it out, I talked to Brock about break-in. I usually just ride the bikes normal, with some wot and engine breaking thrown in. But, I had heard that running them hard early-on might be the hot ticket. That seemed to be what Brock had in mind. He also pointed me here:

http://www.brocksperformance.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=933&KW=break%2Din&PID=3902#3902

I read through all the info, and coupled with his advice, I decided I would twist the bikes tail today! I know that some folks do follow factory advice religiously when it comes to break-in. Let your conscious be your guide.

Now, being that this bike makes a lot of speed, I didn't want to break any laws. So, of course I went to a closed-course testing area before I let it loose some. Safety first. Well, let me tell you, when you do it....HOLD ON TO YOUR HAT!!! Lee reported that it pulls strongly to redline....well, that was an understatement! I nearly tagged the limiter, going uphill....IN 4TH GEAR! I caught the shift at about 11300 indicated.

If it seems like I am excited, it is because I am! This bike is just a whole new level of power for a showroom stock machine. As you know I just traded in a showroom stock 2011 Busa. Best choice I've ever made. The Busa was nice, but felt harmless in comparison!

I also played with the traction control a little. It seemed to me that the level 1 setting did tame the bike down a little in 1st gear. It will still easily lift the front wheel, but you have to get more aggressive to get the same results. Again, that is just my "seat of the pants" impromptu testing. We will probably learn more as time goes on.

A FOLLOW UP NOTE ON LOW-END RESPONSE....

Another area I had mentioned was that the secondary throttle plates seemed to soften the bike down low. Well, don't get me wrong....it stil has strong response. In fact, the front wheel lifts up easily from just a few k rpm. I played around a little with it in my driveway, lol. No room for big wheelies, but I wanted to see how strong the response was from very low rpm, with the bike at perhaps 25 mph?:

So, don't worry too much about those throttle plates for now. The throttle response is still very strong! 41 miles showing on the odomoter now....
