Zx14 with 1900cc (custom bottom end) help please!
Hello Fellas
Its my first post and hope that I an get some opinions from the gurus of ZX14 head on here after reading through some great info and know how. Ive found an auto engine block that will be converted to use a ZX14 head after spending countless hours looking through engine gasket catalogues, wrecking yards, engine reco places and worshops to finally find something that is very close to the siamesed bores of the zx14`s 84mm bores and that water jackets inc. headstuds almost line up. There is some work involved but after careful calculations it will work out well with careful cast iron dowels/inserts and reworking/tapping to suit the ZX14 headgasket. The timing case will be modified using a custom jack shaft based on the original crank snout gear.
My question is if using this engine with 83.6mm stroke and 84mm bores what would i need to get a healthy 240 or more ponies ate considering it will have 500cc more than the 1352cc stock engine.
I would like to make at least the same HP at reduced rpm with suitable longer tapered runners and more HP if possible with correct porting and larger throttle sizes instead of going for very expensive custom camshafts iwth comparable lightweight of the original factory masterpieces. Its a project for an Under 2ltr race car and would like to have a lighter ZX14 head than spending way more on developing an average 16v auto head for large reliable hp.
83.6mm stroke
84mm bores
25mm pin height original cast pistons
137.922mm c-c connecting rods
1.65 rod stroke ratio
8700rpm redline
fully balanced engine
Tilton 12lbs flywheel/clutch package
48mm custom throttle bodies (dont think I need bigger)
equal length custom headers and tuned exhaust system

I thought of contacting Jim but since Im in Australia I dont want to bother him
as Im mainly doing the work locally with a capacity that no ZX will ever have.
So if I could get some theory on how to port an 08 head Id be very grateful as I feel these
engines are very tricky to make power from especially with almost an 84mm stroke.
I am considering using larger inlet and ex valves with the 84mm bore and even going
to 85mm bores but it seems that is not necessary as Jim has confirmed stock is fine.
I would like to run premium pump gas with similar compression and not have to extract
every little bit of power I can but will aim for longer runners for inlet manifolding and
improved torque characteristics for the fattest curve I can get under the graph.

Silly question but wouldn't it be more practical / affordable to go a Honda/Acura route? I know (at least under boost) that some of these sub-2 liter engines are making very good hp. I've seen some N/A applications going low 11's too. To build one of those motors to an extreme level of performance has to cost less than what you are contemplating.

There are quite a few engines that could be used to get the same hp with less $$$
It is just to have something different and the engine block Im using allows me to
use a car that is light (1375lbs from factory!) stay within rules and fits within the
miniscule engine bay unlike all the high hp capable 1.8 - 2 liters out there.
The initial outlay is more but has cheaply available RWD 5speed & clutches.

Love to use the jetski zx15f engine but would need a serious transaxle for the coupler setup
eg. porsche, audi or gtr etc
