Funny how 90% of all American cars on the other side of the ocean are all diesels yet you can't find one here. Obviously 1badzx12r you have never left the USA, so no point in arguing with you. The only way things will change is when Chinese labour prices reach america standards, until then CEO's need there $100 million salaries. Even Japs will suffer soon enough as chinese cars and motorcycles start eventually entering the USA for a 1/3 less as you already see them starting.

That's exactly right blueLIGHTning. The Japanese (just like the Germans) are well aware of the manufacturing and cheap-labour juggernaught that is China, which is only beginning to get traction in some of these markets. Sure we will all laugh at their early attempts to break into new markets like sports bikes and the like, but don't think for a second that they won't keep using their enormous labour and financial resources to continue developing and refining their products which will very rapidly equal and likely surpass what we currently have on offer, all for a fraction of the price.
What I'm basically saying is that before too long, China will be quite able to produce super-cars that are equivalent (if not superior) to the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini for the price of a Hyundai. Or even a sportsbike that simply crushes the ZX-14R for the price of a 50cc scoter - I mean who's not going to buy one of those?
In the mean time any company/country producing a product such as a motorbike or motor vehicle will eventually be unable to compete with China in terms of cost & volume, so instead they must compete (and win) in terms of technology, quality and perhaps above all the after sales service and support of their products. Failing this they may as well all pack up and and sell right now before losing a serious amount of money.

What makes you think America doesn't (in part) build the 14? Manufacturing, vehicles especially, are so incredibly globalized these days, calling a particular brand X or Y nationality borders on pointless. Car parts are designed and built in other countries, materials come from yet other countries, design houses are contracted to do work, R&D or at least testing is done in multiple countries. I'm not quite as tight in the loop as fish but I do know that as of a couple years ago alot of testing was done in Cali and feedback/recommendations for fixes sent back to Japan (I have no reason to think that has changed since). Honda owned their own private massive track and test facility. The bikes are assembled in Japan sure (I suppose demand just isn't high enough to justify making local plants like for cars). But I wouldn't be at all surprised if Kawi has American peeps working in Japan on R&D too.

And yes I know I'm stretching the original point a little, but it is a subject that bugs me because globalization has made national commercial identities very suspect.

The sad point about all this is, years ago you left high school and if you didn't want to go to college you could get a decent job in a factory to raise your family and still make a good buck. Today all that is left is walmart or starbucks. China is already the number #1 car maker in the world, and if it wasn't for government owning GM that to would be gone. Nevermind the fact China couldn't give a shit about patent laws and since everyone needs china for cheap labor and funding world debt nobody wants to offend them.
1badzx12r I've owned and still own a '92 and 2003 Dodge diesel, had a ford 6.9 and 7.4 and also a chev diesel to pull backhoe and bobcats. The old '92 by far has been the best the rest, have been garbage with transmission problems, injectors that never even made it to a 100,000 miles and you know how cheap those are!!!! The only good transmission was the standard which you can't even get anymore.
Lets face facts cars are made to break down or else companies would all be bankrupt, its not the sales that keeps them alive its the service and parts.
