Street turbo pistons

I have been using stock pistons now on the Muzzy stage 1 for 37k miles. Unrelated to the turbo system I had to strip and replate the cylinders. One of the cylinders lost some of its plating about the size of a quarter that made it run rich. It was a bugger to find. To get good hp for street use, need 10-1 or 10.5 to one for good daily ride manners. Have seen many mixed emotions about all the different brands, like JE, MTC, JP etc. I have to re-do the motor and might as well go shoot for more than 235 RWHP, which today is wuss. This is a daily ride so need a good set of pistons. You guys will have the answere. Scott Horner is on a steep learning curve about the 14, as well as I, he hates the factory shop manual.

Appreciate your input, several engine builders like JE also. What compression ratio are you running? I leave boost alone when on pump gas. Pump gas is a crap shoot, never know what you really have.

Davej I see you're in Utah at least 5K ft alt presume, it seems that stock compresson has to to be good if gas of good octane is available. The mod that I believe is helpful for street use hot air and altitude is an intercooler. More power and drivability easier on the engine.

You might consider meth/water injection. Systems can be had for pretty cheap.

As for pistons, I'd run Wossner pistons.

Wossner were not available for the 14 last time i asked ,

I usually ceramic coat std pistons for street use turbo up to 300hp or so , depends how hard you like to push it , but my builds so far have been suzuki, ,

the current 14s i am building are going to be pushed somewhat and will get pistons and rods

and if i do change pistons i like to do rods too,

Your in good hands with Scott

wossners are available now. Of course everybody has their own way of doing things and Iam not saying mine is the right way but it works for me . if you have plenty of fuel, stay off the rev limiter, and somebody that knows how to tune a turbo bike, you will have a bike thats a blast to ride around and only another turbo bike will come close to staying with you.

Thats great news gunna have to put some $ aside to complete these builds

Yep everyone looks at the info available and does what suits them best ,doing all my own work i can afford to take a calculated risk on things like pistons, if your paying someone or doing paid work for someone then you cannot look for second best .

Tuneup and proper fuel system/ engine management setup is most inportant
even the best pistons will not save you with a leanout ,

Call Phil at MTC
they have 10.5 turbo pistons, stock head gasket.
1bad didn't have luck with their 11.5 nitrous pistons,
but our European Cart racer has had god luck with the pistons for the right application.

The price is right, and I didn't have to clearance the wrist pin bores like I did on the JE pistons.
If I hadn't caught that, the JE. pistons would have been junk quick.

1bad used the 12.5 drop in pistons MTC-ZX14-1352H-FT after calling MTC

he's not using 11.5 nitrous drop-in pistons in europe.. the euro cart guy got the 2mm shorter carillo rods and the 11.5 tall deck turbo pistons .. not the same thing ..

Stock pistons and rods call it a day. They take a beating just don't do top end pulls back to back, but tahrs a given for any boosted bike.

Just recieved the 9.5-1 pistons from JE yesterday. They look well made with ample ports for the oil rings. How much power can the stock rods take? At 43K miles they show .0001" stretch out of round. The engine has seen few miles at WOT, perhaps only 50.

How do the JE compare to std piston and pin weight , if there is much difference i would think about rods too,
