Anyone had this headshake problem with 55's?
I am planning to go 55's in the rear in a couple of weeks and I found this searching around. Was hoping if anyone that has the 55's can speak if they had such an issue...

Metzeler M5´s 190/55 rear (+ M5 front). No headshake, works like a charm on road, closed circuit and standing mile.
55 works much better than 50, imo.

I was gonna go with the Pirelli Angel STs. They replaced the stockers and I've had them for 8000 miles and 1 track day. Still got thread on them and they stick like they are glued... But anyway I saw this guy complaining and didn't know if anyone else had this happen or if the change requires some special suspension setup or some steering damper or what? Might be just a dude with a problem i guess :-)

Put on a steering dampner, end of worries. I run a 180/55 for quicker turn in, plus tires are bunches cheaper than 190/55's.

Currently running 190/55 Pilot Road 2's after running the 190/50 Pirelli Angels. Both are rock solid! Never any headshake at all!

Same here, used 55 on rear in the mountains and just Hiway roll on's :-) never a problem. Have the steering head adjustments checked. Mike has over 30,000 miles on his 2006 with Michelin Pilot Road 2 like mine with Zero problems and we have raced each other Many times coming back from the Ozarks in Arkansas to Texas. We have gone stupid fast on the open hiway and Never had any issues.

190/55s Metzler M5s. Better handling, no stand-up, good grip, average wear. Doesn't feel quite as stable as the 50s, but perfectly acceptable. Certainly no headshake. For the first time, the bike actually handles the way it should have out of the showroom.
Suspension setup is nothing strange. I weigh about 155lb, I have about 2/3 of the preload on, front and rear, and about 2 clicks more on compression and rebound at both ends. That's a bit firm for a comfortable ride, especially until the forks warm up a bit, but there are benefits in stability and chassis composure.

I bought my 08 ZX14 w/ stock Battalaxe 014's. The bike had only 3500 miles.
I upgraded to the ZX14 from a ZX636. I'm 200+lbs and took the 636 to the road race track. I got confident enough that I could carry the rear wheel on the 636 into corners and put a lot of load on the front end.
The first time I tried this on slick pavement with the ZX14, the bars slammed to the far left bar lock and I slid the bike about 12-15ft in a straight line with the front tire turned completely to the left. I stayed up right by balancing on the rear wheel straight up. It went left cause I was trying to load the front and counter steer into a right hand corner at an empty intersection. I ended up locking up the front and the counter steering input I applied sent the bars into full bar lock and I just slid straight about two bike lengths instead of hitting my turn-in mark, I just slid right through it.
The speed was around 10-15mph sliding straight but very sketchy feeling as it balanced on the rear tire leaning just a bit side to side like it was going to go out from under me. After about two bike lengths the front end literally snatched back straight and it all came back to me. That was my mistake for over loading the front on wet pavement. Since then I took it much easier but decided to try to load the front end again in some drier road conditions. This time the same thing happen, but I was prepared and caught it after only about 6 inches of sliding the front. With the stock Battaleaxe 014's the front wants to fold/collapse/tuck really bad.
To fix this I bought a set of 2CT Pilot Pure and Pilot Powers. I ended up low siding the bike in a fender bender on my way to work before putting them on. Again I slid the front end and could not stop in time. I don't have any confidence on the front end of my zx14 now. I'm rebuilding it but I'm hoping the 2CT PP's will make the difference and bring my confidence back. It looks like if I get it put back together in time, I may be doing some road race track days with it this Dec-Jan.

The stock BT014 Bridgestones are junk. Install the Pilots and you will be good.

Doing stuff like that on wet pavement is the smartest thing to do with a 500+ lb bike...

40 plus runs at Texas & Mojave over 200 on a 55 series. No head shake at all.
Race tech the front forks. Then you'll realize how shitty the stock forks are.
