they don't just disappear.
only way you can miss them is if you opened them and closed them accidentally before reading (also, since they open in new windows, assuming no popup blocker, they may actually still be open under your current window or something).

there is no way to pull up PMs, sorry. It is really an IM system, not PM.

Freek, I have read PM before.
The red box would not open.
I also checked for new windows.
Can't explain it, but no problem.

If you clicked on the red notification and nothing opened, then you have a particularly strict (to the point of stupid) popup blocker. More to the point, if you have a popup blocker then the red notification won't go away, so I'm not sure what to say.
