Speed Sensor gone??? Anyone notice???

Remember the mod to grind 1 or 2 of the 4 pickup points off of the coutnershaft / speed sender nut to fool the speed limiter?

Check the CS sprocket cover - the speed sensor is either gone or has been moved.

Is this still going to be the cheap and easy mod, or is speed detected from the wheel(s) now?

Hmm wonder if we will need to get a different "speedo Healer" for the new one if we start playing with the gearing?

Gearing changes will not affect MPH if the wheels are recording MPH...

The new Zx14 pulls a signal from the rear brake rotor now, that is where the speed sensor pickup is located now.

Could be a problem for high speed guys... looks like Don Guhl might be getting more work. We still don't know how to trick the high speed limiter on the wheel speed sensed versions of the BMW's. We broke 200 on the standard version without ABS/DTC by grinding the speedo pick-up lug. We sent data logs to BMW and they said "it's not restricted" even after we showed them before and after charts from flat-line, not pulling any more RPM runs of 194 MPH to pulling to red line breaking 200... they still denied a restriction.

yes the old bike was an easy fix just grounded one corner off the four corners off the front sprocket bolt made it think it was going 150 at 200. it's okay though just put a big shot on it and you won't need to gear it down LOL.

If this assumption is correct and the wheel-speed sensor pulse disappears straight into the ECU where it gets used for ABS, Speedo (traction control?) etc it could prove hard to de-restrict the bike.
If that's not the case then some type of speedohealer might still work, after all it's just a box which outputs tach pulses at a different rate to the input.

The obvious fix for derestricting would be new rotors with a couple fewer slots.

Brock could be right, I really didn't look at my 2011 zx10; I am sure there's a way, but I had mine done with the reflash....

I am sure both bikes have the same technology, rotors is not the answer, if you don't install the TC plates, your bike will run wicked.... as in wack

Is there a wiring diagram for the 2012 bike available yet?

Since some versions are available with ABS (overseas, from what I hear), then the speed sensors would have to be on the wheels. Not sure about speedohealer, I have one, but it would be a whole redesign. Prob a reflash will be the answer in the end, as soon as someone figures out how.
The oil plug seems to be another mod we dont have to do since it is up front instead of on the bottom (does KHI read this forum? lol).

Correct, and there would be enough of a market for the 14R to justify the R&D. There is also the problem of extending the sensor wire for extended wheelbase use - "just add some wire" can add enough resistance at the connections alone to cause more problems. The 14 crowd may get a new lesson in high tech hassle very soon.

Also, with a Speedohealer on bikes up to 2011 it's easy to program a speedo under-read to fool the limiter for top speed events and then program it so the speedo reads correctly for road use. Or to change it when you make a gearing change. It easily suits either purpose.

If you installed rotors with fewer slots, a mechanical solution rather than an electronic one, it would give a fixed offset which you would be stuck with. It's a whole new ball game. I was in touch with Healtech last week and they don't have the solution yet but they are aware of this.
