Well, I was pretty sure that PetriK had worked on this, without good results. And then this guy shows up out of nowhere, asking for some rather obscure data...and showing ignition tables that run to 15k rpm. Some the data he is requesting, such as rpm #'s for the limiter...well, I don't think any two ecu's are going to perform 100% alike. And certainly not within a resolution of 15 rpm. But, hey, I've been wrong before.

I don't know, maybe it is the next great thing...but I'm skeptical.

I'm not sure, Lyle. I'm just going to sit back and see what happens here. I don't have the exact data he needs anyway. But, if he does get it going, I will be one of the first to congratulate him and send my money.

Stocker has been around for a while. Looks like he may be working with Petrik.

Actually Stocker was getting this information for me.

I can read / flash the older zx-14 ECUs 21175-0084 and have found the maps and rev limits. The only think eluding me now is the top speed limiter.

To be honest what makes it harder is I know so little about the 14. Is the top speed limiter fuel or ignition cut? Can it be defeated now with a TRE or Speedo Healer?

I've become very familiar with the Denso software and how they do things but the Mitsubishi used by the ZX-10 ZX-14 are totally different and I'm having to start from square one again.

Every little bit of information helps. I know I will find it sooner or later would rather it were sooner.

you can beat the limiter by setting the speedo healer with a negative number

Next question; What is the sensor sensing? Tooth off of a internal transmission gear like the zx12 or off something bolted to the end of the output shaft like a gsxr.

Even better anyone happen to know how many pulses per rear wheel revolution? I got lucky with the 12. The pulses per second at 60mph were listed in the manual. No such luck with the 14 manual.

it's reading the corners on the counter shaft nut. some shave two corners off to make the speedo read low

Cool. So now all I need is the tire circumference. Any chance some where out there there is a gearing change spread sheet with mph info in it?

yup, here:
http://www.gearingcommander.com/

I have asked numerous times to have it stickied, but not much happens here for organization...

pick Kawi, ninja, then 2006 zx14,

gearing hasn't changed through to 2009

Thanks for helping us out with this RR,

will we be able to manipulate ignition timing and fuel based on boost?
shift kill?

Perhaps I am mistaken, but I think the primary gear did change for 08-09? I seem to recall a different crank and basket gear.

This is certainly very exciting news about the ecu flashing!

If you look at Bk/Y off the speed sensor, follow the color to #4 injector. It could be fuel cutting off #4. I would guess fuel and keep the ignition at full advance @186 mph.

Yes gears changed, but did the ratio? may be mistaken but I though the primary ratio was still within .01 to 1

I'm pretty sure the zx14 kills ignitions not fuel at the 186 speed limit,
I saw the bike go rich on the dyno. I think its some type of random kill
because the chart was not smooth.

Yes the limiter can be defeated with a speedhealer

That is a useful clue. I think I know why it may not have been smooth.

Were Denso executes a soft cut by having a softcut limit that sets a flag and then executes the cut with a subroutine it appears that Mitsubishi has individual limiters for each cylinder and then overlaps the turn off / on limits to execute some kind of soft cut. (I'm pretty sure that ABCD in the maps will turn out to be cylinder 1234)

Look at Neutral Group 1 (upper right)

First it cuts one cylinder at 10000. If the rpms continue to climb it will cut another cylinder at 10054. If the rpms still climb it cuts the two remaining clyinders. Also notice that the cylinders all turn back on at different rpms with the first cylinder to cut being the last to turn back on. The actual rev limit in this case would depend on how much inertia the engine had going into the limiters

What you observed on the dyno makes me think I should be looking for a group of soft cut like values for the speed limiter. It makes sense that you would not want to abruptly kill all power on the rider when he is going 186.

Keep those clues coming....
