If you are just dumping the clutch, most likely the engine is going to bog, that will kill your whole time. It is important to get the clutch out and get to wot as quickly as possible, but it is just as important to do so smoothly.

And +1 on the video, that would help the most.

Check out this video that Shane (hope you don't mind) took out at MIR at one of Jason Miller's Streetbike Seminars. The rider is Rickey Grayson and if you listen you can hear how he slips the clutch and you can barely tell when the clutch is all the way out. Just nice and smooth.

quote:
A couple of videos we have taken during the 60'/330' seminar. The rider is Rickey Grayson, and he is fast and smooth:

Jason encourages everyone to take video of both their own runs, and those during the seminar demonstrations.

I have brocks springs and spacers in my bike and was cutting 1.54-1.58 60s all night last night.First time with all 5 springs and spacers had stock spring and spacers last time out and was cutting 1.56-1.63 60s.
Next time out im going to try leaving at 3k.
My brothers bike is 9 over and was leaving at 7k.

I think that the springs plus spacers is too stiff. I run just the Brock's springs, and the only reason that I added them was in preparation for a small shot of nitrous.

But like anything practice helps. I thought that my Brock's springs were too stiff, but I decided to stick with it and now I average around 1.37.

You don't need a ton of RPM with these bikes because they have a lot of torque. I leave around 5500 or maybe a touch higher, but it is all about getting the throttle locked quick and getting the clutch out far enough initially to get the bike moving but not far enough to make it wheelie or bog. A lot of people think they are going to full throttle off the hit but it is hard to tell until you get video. I put a GoPro on my helmet and recorded every run and watched it afterwards and made adjustments.

A lot of this is all personal preference and what works for me or someone else won't work for someone else. Don't get discouraged and just keep at it and you will see the times fall with more seat time. So try different things, because if you do what you have always done you will get the same results that you always get.

Good luck.

Justin
