What happened to the side there? I dunno much about raising the bike but I'll be getting those 55's for the rear in a few weeks.

If you're screaming around twisties it's a good idea to just remove the lowers, it gives a little more clearance & saves the plastic. Even with the plastic in place the engine covers will still crack anyway if you low side. I tried to find Woodcraft or similar covers but it doesn't appear anyone makes them. The stock covers are thin, cheap crap but expensive. Or you could ride it like a cruiser & not have to worry about grinding anything.

Nice riding Roy, good to see people actually RIDING their 14s too. Most people I've ridden with simply won't go that low, let alone on a 14!

Leave em on there. They'll work as feelers.
We had a guy at the roadrace track take his lowers off, he ended up grinding through the water elbow, got coolant on his tire and wrecked from it.

You might need your suspension set up for your weight. Mine is and my pegs hit first. I think your front is sinking too much. Also a 55 tire will help with turn in and with clearance.

I have a 180/55 tire to get a little taller .
the front has the preload screwed down a bit.
The pegs do hit first , but they were being raised up as i went thru the corner so I was pushing it pretty hard.
having said that , i do think that i could use heavier springs on the front and back.... but really , no one was passing me either :-)

The 14 is only sprung for a 150lb rider stock. I had my shock resprung and revalved by Traxxion Dynamics and wish I had done it sooner. I am a"so rocking a 55 series rear tire and highly recomend it too.

Roy, go here:
http://racetech.com/ProductSearch/2/Kawasaki/ZX-14/2006-11
Put in your weights and you'll be somewhere between 1.0 and a 1.1 spring. FWIW I'm barely heavy enough for the stock .85 springs on the front of the 12...and literally 1/2 the recommended weight for the rear which is why I bounce all over the place. I can look up pricing for you tomorrow if you like....1.0s are available through our distributor....1.1s we gotta get straight from racetech.

Who's been a bad boy them? LOL.
I have a few turns more front preload and quite a few turns more rear, and M5 Metzlers in 55 series. I'm a little on the light side of average, ~155lb, and my peg feelers or my knee touch first, depending how far off the bike I get. I'm very surprised how much clearance the bike has. I thought I'd be scraping stuff pretty easy, but that's not the case.
As the guys above said, good to see somebody ride a 14 properly - and not just in a straight line. They drag well - that's great. But they corner pretty good for a big girl, too.
A 14 knee down, onboard.
1:00 ~ 1:10,
3:00 ~ 3:05,
3:55 ~ 4:05,
5:20 ~ 5:25
What the heck - go find them yourselves. LOL.

No problem, Racetech is a pretty good company.
Just be certain to be HONEST with your actual weight, and get the bike weighed with 1/2 a tank if you really don't know what it weighs and go with that weight as a good "average weight" for your bike.
Also, "street" vs "track" means track they usually bump you up to the next stiffest spring so be honest with your application for the best fitment.
Although I'd be surprised to see if Roy actually does it....its hard enough to get him to stop using friggin $80 tires or whatever, lol but if he can ride like that with lower end tires more power to him! But if he DOES to it I'll be more inclined to get the rear shock done for my weight and go scratch canyons with him in NC for sure, that would be fun.

Up until this last weekend , I did not think that the tires or suspension was a problem . I really did believe that the bike is capable of more performance than I was able to use.
but now I have a reason to look at improving the bike setup ....
Get your bike ready Ali :-)

How do you like the Metzler M5's? I hope you love them because I have a set coming tomorow. Have you used a Q2 before by chance? If so how do you compare them, thanks.

ok , rear spring came off of a 2009 gsxr 1k , front spring is off of a 2006 zx-10 .. should be much closer .
Ali , I dont know if I can out run you on a 250 , but I think I can do ok if you are on the 12 :-)
I am gonna get some more practice , just let me know where you would like to ride.

My old 12R damn near had a hole word thru the lowers from that... but that's not to say I was actually cranked over quite so far. It was more a matter of riding at moderate lean angles on a bumpy ass road that frequently bottomed out suspension mid corner, reducing the available lean greatly. I'm assuming less that race-track-perfect roads are part of your equation too?

Wow! I went out last weekend on a burn with 9 other bikes. We figured it'd be the last real nice weekend in PA for a while. The breakdown was 5 R6s, 1 each GSX600, 750 and three Zx14s. We covered damn near 100 miles on twisty roads and me and one of the other 14s kept up with the smaller bikes just fine. The third 14 had his wife on the back and a hangover so we waited for him and some of the slower guys at stop signs. These guys werent beginners either at least one went to superbike school, a few of them were in full race leathers, and most of them have done track days. When we stopped to get gas a lot of the guys were surprised that a couple 14s were keeping up so well. I tell people all the time that my bike handles better than they might think and I have a 6 inch extension on mine. The thing is neither me or the other 14 got a mark on our bikes. All we did was grind down our shoes a bit. I agree you should get your suspension set up. I'm a heavy guy and it made all the difference in the world for me. If that doesn't work, you must be doing some SERIOUS riding.

OK , i set the bike up with the proper rear spring rate and street riding / cornering is better.
But now with the stiffer rear the bike wants to wheelie all the time .
the rear had the compression on the stock setting , so I went to 3.5 turns out to soften it.
I set the rebound dampening to 1 turn out to slow down the rebound .
Now when I launch it or hit it hard in first gear it wheelies all the way thru first gear.
Is there any good compromise to have the bike stiff enough for the twisties and still be able to drag race it ?
this is stock wheelbase and no strap ,,,, race it just the way I rode it to the track.
