Michelin Power Pures on the 14

My Q2's are about done, and they are great. Only problem is they only last about 2000 miles. I rteally want to try the Power Pures this time, but have read post about them making a heavier bike feel a bit squirly due to the light tire technology. Any of you guys using them on the 14 with good results? I don't want to make a bad purchase.

I use Michelin fronts and from my experience and observations is that these flexible carcass tires require higher tire pressures. Those that run lower pressures usually complain of scalloped wear on the fronts at least. I suppose the same should happen on thhe rear as well. I run about 41 fronts and around 39 in rear. My rear tires seem to wear quicker than ever also, running BT-016 rear for the dual compound, run Pilot Power front. I am thinking might be wrong but I think the tire mfg,s are maybe using thinner tread or whatever giving us a quicker wearing rear tire. I used to get quite a bit longer life from the rears same tire pressure I even try to use lighter throttle in 1st. So I'm saying it's a conspiracy or maybe the mfg's are trying to not raise the price of tires.

My favorite tire was the dunlop roadsmart. They will last at least twice as long as the qualifier or Q2 and they grip VERY well. As long as you're not doing track days, they'll do fine imo. I could go WOT out of 2nd gear corners and it never spun. Most people use way too sticky of a tire imho.

I ran the Pirelli Angels and am now running Pilot Road 2's both excellent on the 14. I got 6k out of the pirelli's which I feel is excellent. 1500 on the Pilot Road 2's so far and wearing very well.

Tim i have run Pilot Powers before and liked them, but their technology is getting dated. Look at their lap times in last years sportbike tire shootout they are 6 seconds off the lap times of the Q2. i was starting to like the new Metzler M5 Sportec untill i priced them.

Are you doing track on the bike because my bike never seems to slip on the street. It's the street so not being pushed to the limits like the track.

Yes i am doing track days and ride 90 percent twisty. I push 75 percent on the street max because i have a wife and daughter that need me to come home. I love the q2 they wear out faster than i like. i have never worn out a set of tires in 2000 miles till the q2.

I run BT016's or Diablo Rosso's. I think the Bstone is one of the best. As far as tire life goes, the only way you're going to get any mileage is to change your riding style

I have been using the pilot power 2CT's with good results but do not do track days. This winter setting up the bike for the street/dragstrip and want a tire that will do both. What are currently the best street tires available for street/dragstrip? I do mostly twisties, occasionally 2 up and have a wife & 2 children that need me to come home in 1 piece... so I am not riding beyond 50-75% on public roads. Dunlop Sportmax Q2 good for Strip?

No the Q2 rear is dual compound and the center is harder for supposedly better milage. The Michelin Power One seems to be the drag tire. Look at Shanes build thread for some good drag tire info.

At stock wheelbase, just about ANY tire will hook at the drag strip. Heck, I used an avon storm and it hooked every time.

I had a Pilot Power 190/50 on the back and a Pilot Pure on the front for 10,000k - 6k miles. They were well shagged by the end.

I had a serious stand up problem with the OEM BT014s, and while the Pure was better, it still wanted to stand up, even with 42+psi. (No, I'm not a big guy either - 70kg.) Grip was excellent while new, but went away some as the tyre wore. They did feel light, but also felt like a more solid carcass would have suited the bike better.

I changed to Metzler M5s 3,000k ago. (190/55) No more stand up. They feel heavier, but more accurate. They're wearing faster. I can get the peg and my knee down with some throttle on. They haven't slid at all yet, as long as the surface was clean.

More detail here, if you don't mind ploughing through it.
