Stall on Cold Start

When I cold start my bike it will run for approx 2-3 seconds and then stall. If I give it a little gas for the first couple of seconds then it will pickup the idle on its own and its good. I put my bazzaz back to zero map but no change. So a 2008 ZX14 with Brock's slipons and BMC street filter.

If I do not touch the throttle at all on start, this is what I get:
1st start...stall.
2nd start...stall
3rd start....idle goes directly to approx 1600rpm.

I do have a service manual which i've looked through a few times now. The only thing I can find is a diagnosis sheet on 3-30 that has the option "Engine Stalls...Right after starting". However, I can not find any information on this anywhere in the book.

I thought it might be a voltage issue (I know my battery is a little weak), but I crossed that off the list by charging for a couple hours then starting with the charger still connected ...still would not idle up until 3rd start.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. My wife rides a Honda and this is getting me some serious abuse...lol

Nick

Two things ... One set your TPS on your P/C .. Make sure it is warmed up before doing so ... Second and this is most likely the real problem .. Warm up the bike to at least 2 bars .. 3 bars even better .. set idle two 1100+ ... If your idle is to low 900 or lower it will stall when cold ..

Mine goes to about 1700 on cold start.I had trouble with it after I removed the flies. Then I noticed it wasn't hitting this accuator right on the left side of the throttle bodies. There is a locknut you have to loosen and adjust the setting.Mine was going up to 2200.Then I adjusted it then when it came down I adjusted the idle to 1100.

Then try setting your TPS .. If that doesn't help unplug the P/C and give it a try ..

even thinking of unhooking my bazzaz makes me cry a little...lol It's a total PITA to unplug it from all the injectors. I will try out the TPS setting tomorrow as well as what audioboyz suggested

Thank you very much for the info!!

Mine did it on really cold mornings when I kept her outside, by the second or third try she would fire up and idle high till she warmed up. This was before the PCIII an aftermarket stuff and if she is cold enoug she still dose it, nuttin to worry about, I just let the bike cycle the fuel pump before trying to start again.

Thanks for the info. Mine will do it sitting in my garage when its like 18-20+ degrees in there so I think I definitely have a problem somewhere. Will look into it today after work.

Where you from Newf? Dont hear of too many 14's on the island

I am from the Burin, living in Marystown, there are maybe five 14's that I know of on the island could be more.
Mine will stall if it is a nice cool mornin if it is the temp that you posted she starts up just fine.
