Destroyed my ZX11, insurance help?
I had a '96 ZX-11 that I street ride. Was a super clean bike with 27k on the odometer. Long story short, I more than likely totaled it on Monday.
I have full coverage and was wondering what to expect from my insurance company as far as reimbursement. I am sure a few of you have been through this, so I am asking you for your input.
Are they going to cover my jacket, helmet and gloves that were destroyed (which saved my life and saved them huge medical bills)?
Are they going to try and give me some kind of low ball offer on the value of the bike if its totaled?
Thanks in advance, I am really bumming that I destroyed a perfectly good motorcycle that I absolutely loved to ride.

Not sure. I crashed last October and totaled my 14. I rode it home, and no law enforcement involvement. I have Progressive.
I have coverage for my gear and aftermarket stuff so it was all covered. My 07 was valued at 7200 then. They offered it back to me at the salvage price and I kept it and fixed it back. So now it will have a salvage title if I get rid of it. Oh well.
They sent someone out to do an estimate and I was happy with that. They cut me a check for the bike and a check for the gear and aftermarket stuff.
Good luck.

Retail on your bike is $2,755.00. If you have upgrades and depending on your insurance company, you should receive at least that amount. This is only if they won't except receipt for upgrades.
Hope this helps you

The bike was bone stock (I liked the quiet for the street), so upgrades arent an issue. $2755 is reasonable, I just don't want them trying to cut me a check for $1500 or something like that.
Thanks all for the feedback.

They may low ball you, but usually they will offer straight blue book value. Your biggest arguement is normally about the upgrades.
Depending on your insurance, your gear should be paid for seperately, minus your deductable. So, you have a deductable for your bike and another for your gear. Include your jeans, watch, iphone, sunglasses, camera, anything that was damaged by the accident that was not part of your bike.
On my bike I was hit by another driver, so there was no deductable, and they paid for my helmet, jacket, pants, backpack and the camera I had in the backpack.
BTW, I rebuilt my CBR900rr with the insurance money. I would NOT recommend doing it unless you just want it for a track bike. The work involved in getting the parts and, now, difficulty in reselling the bike make it not worth it, just get a new bike. No one wants a salvaged bike.

Another problem is your deductible. If they offer you $2500 and you have a $1000 deductible, you'll only get a check for $1500.
