Went to T&T last Thursday night....Dead?

I have been working a lot of overtime lately. But after work last thursday night I took my bike to Test & Tune. There was nobobdy there? It was a perfect afternoon. Not many cars and only a handful of bikes. I wanted to set my lock up clutch to a different setting to get a better 60 ft. I talked with the track worker in the staging lanes and he said attendance is really down this year. I guess High gas prices, excessive heat, and poor economy have hurt the liesure sports. Anyway they are going to hold a really big Bike only grudge fest on Sept. 10th. I hope there is a good turnout. there sure is a lot of BS talking on PB about it. It is new this year and all concrete 1/8th mile.

I haven't been to the track in about 3 months. Just didn't want to deal with the heat this year.

We've been having 4 -5 bikes in our 9.50 class here.. where as last year we had 12+ every race and the year before that 15+, year before that 20+.. it's a steady decline...

I wonder if it's not due to how the bikes have evolved? Back when we had our bracket classes and most bikes were stock wheelbase and maybe lowered a little we would have tons of bikes. Then came faster more expensive bikes, bolt on swingarms, NOS kits, Turbo's. The regular hard working guy with a family just could not buy that kind of stuff to put on the bikes. So basically they quit comming to the track. Throw in high unemployment, soaring gas prices and I guess we have what we got now. I sold several of my bikes, I still have the Turbo Busa to play on. I sold my Harley Road King and even that market is down so I lost some on that. A friend just bought a used Boss Hoss, He's having it painted, looks like it will be fun. I will take it out and hammer it to see what it's got. 350 V8 motorcycle should do pretty good.

I agree, 'headsup' wheelbase to weight rules a trophy and some cash is the best thing I could come up with to make it worth going.

Our heads up streetbike class started 2 years ago.. 12 bikes just about every race.

Then the same couple of bikes kept winning..

We had 3 bikes, (or 4 if the other guy had his running at the time) at every race last year.

Give them somthing to race for? We pay $500 to win 9.50, $150 to r/u, and $50 to each in the semis. That's not something?

In our heads up class, first year was exhibition we payed 80% divied up between 1st/2nd/semis. 2nd year (last year) we payed $400 to win and $100 to runner up.

There's plenty to race for. A few of our guys were from texas.. it wasn't worth the trip up here for them.. Can't blame em, i don't drive to texas to race.

The boss hosses aren't as quick as you'd think. A stock liter or 14/busa will spank even the big blocks no problem. Quite a few years ago a bike magazine ran a hoss against a stock ZX12, the 12 ran away as the speeds increased. A guy on one of the forums I use to frequent had 2 big block hosses, he said the big sport bikes had no trouble pulling him. I read the same basic thing on the hoss forums. Part of it was getting traction, the other part was the v-8 power has trouble getting through the auto tranny and drive train to the ground effectively enough to produce sportbike beating acceleration. There was a guy at our local bike night that had the 350 version, when he hit it it was quick, but not what I expected. Instant power, but not the high rpm hit of quick building power that lets a sportbike pull so hard as you wind them up. I think the v-8's are better suited to a 2 wheeled rear drive set-up that lets them pull the taller gears while still getting good traction to put the massive torque and lower rpm's compared to a bike to good use. I'd still buy one for the right price though lol.

hey i think this man has figured it out ..when 1 guy keeps winning the others don't enter knowing they have no chance ..so they stop coming ..

me i like competition so that why i Index and ET ..I'M not gonna enter some heads up class knowing the fastest bike in the staging lanes or pits is a full second faster

It was never like that.. Competition was always close.

But i've heard the guy say "i only run what i need to run".. If the guy he's racing runs an 8.60, he runs an 8.50. If the other guy runs an 8.30, he runs an 8.20.. Seen it with my own eyes.

He has another bike that he runs in the funny bike class. I've only seen him run all the way out the back door once, 7.14 or something like that.. No bar outlaw bike. But, then again he said he never touched the 'ohshit' button..

thats not competition but sandbagging ..if you had an 8.60 bike and the 8.20 guy shows up why enter so he can put a wheel on you and run an 8.50.. but all it takes is to beat the wrong guy and everybody knows what he can run then ..

Well what ever the reason they have stopped comming. Me? I would not like paying an entrance fee knowing I didn't have a chance. Back in the late 70's early 80's the bike event stagging lanes would be overcroweded. I remeber having a drawthrough Mr turbo kit on a 78 KZ1000 and running 6.80's in the 1/8th and I was one of the fastest bikes there. That was stock wheelbase with skinny tire and all. I hope it pics back up but I don't himk it will for a while if ever. the motorcycle hayday might have come and gone. At least I got to run in some of the Prostar and IDBA events back when they were strong. Well at least my Turbo project Busa makes a good Saturday night cruise and hang out bike. set at 300 RWHP with a hard compound rear tire it is good to show off on leaving 300 ft. blackmarks pulling off from people that think there new sportbikes with an exhaust are fast.

Race with cars? What if one swapped lanes and took you out?. Most tracks around us don't allow bikes and cars to run together.

Not if you were smashed underneath the car. his bumper would be in front. Unless you are able to stick an arm or a leg out in front of the car from underneath. Down here in Alabama there are to many redneck engineered cars with gigantic motors and no setup of the chassis. I seen more than my share take a hard turn of the starting line or swap ends mid track.
