Overheating issue
I was able to finally re-install my engine after having catastrophic failure last summer! However I now have a dramatic overheating problem. The bike heats up quickly even when idling, and if I go for a ride around the block, the guage display goes blank for a second, then comes back with "HIGH TEMP" in large block letters. The radiator itself is far too hot to even get close to - likewise with all the hoses.
I followed normal procedure for re-filling the radiator (even confirmed with the manual). 50/50 coolant/water mix with a bottle of Water Wetter thrown in. I have pulled off all hoses and they are full of fluid. I went further and blew into the hoses and hose connection points - fluid pushes out the other end. I've removed the coolant pump cover and cycled the motor - the impellor is spinning. There is fluid inside the thermostat. A new head gasket was installed during the rebuild and no white smoke is coming out of the exhaust, so I am assuming all is well there. Further, no traces of anything foreign in the oil nor any unpleasant smells that might indicate coolant being drawn into the engine.
I'm stumped! Any thoughts?

Almost sounds like a stuck thermostat.

When it reads hot does it puke coolant back into the over flow ? If it does check the two hoses that go to the water neck just below the cap on the rad .. One time i had the hoses switched and caused fast over heating and water puking back into the overflow tank ..

Thank you for the replies
Beondwacko - I removed the ouput hose from the thermostat and looked inside. It visually appeared that the thermostat had popped open. I have a spare on - i'll try a swap and see if any difference
smokinZX14 - there was no overflow into the tank - the fluid level did not rise beyond the level I had filled it to. I will take a close look at the plumbing description in the manual just to make sure I have the correct connections though

joel787 - fan is running - comes on as bike gets hot and, as long as I leave the key in the accessory position, it stays on until I can cool the bike down.
