ONONDAGA, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a motorcyclist participating in a protest ride against helmet laws in upstate New York died after he flipped over the bike's handlebars and hit his head on the pavement.
The accident happened Saturday afternoon in the town of Onondaga, in central New York near Syracuse.
State troopers tell The Post-Standard of Syracuse that 55-year-old Philip A. Contos of Parish, N.Y., was driving a 1983 Harley Davidson with a group of bikers who were protesting helmet laws by not wearing helmets.
Troopers say Contos hit his brakes and the motorcycle fishtailed. The bike spun out of control, and Contos toppled over the handlebars. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Troopers say Contos would have likely survived if he had been wearing a helmet.

Some of those Harley riders get rid of there front brakes for looks. Another bad choice if that was the case.

They got it wrong he flipped over when he was doing a stoppie. you know how dangerous those front brakes are.  I do a toys for tots run every year & it seems some moron crashes his harley just as we leave the fairgrounds each time. I don't think most of these guys have a clue how to really ride & putting them into a big group just makes them more dangerous.

it happened in my town. bikes are given a bad rap here. the squids ride their 600s 100 mph down the roads and give every body that obeys the laws bad names. every week somebody dies for some stupid reason. no lic. no insurance. no helmet. driving drunk ect. or getting hit by a car with the driver on a cell phone or a back seat full of kids and they always say ...I didnt see the motorcycle

The guy who just ran over my parked 14 said he didn't see it.
In broad daylight he couldn't see a bright red motorcycle

was it an 06 zx 1400? Its very hard to miss that color. I hope your bike put a big dent in the side of the car.I go by what that country singer said...God is great.beer is good and people are crazyIhope your bike is back together now
