had a run with a bew zx10 tonight

Well I had a run with a new zx10 tonight, my bike is a 08 with 17k on the clock -1 +1 and a yosh pipe. He was on a new 10 with the flys out and a slip on -1 +2. I weigh right at 200 with the leather the 10 rider 245 with leather.

We went from a 45 roll off of GPS in 1st gear, and I jump out in front and pull out 2-4 bikes and hold it till right at 166 on GPS we ran out of road so we let off. I wanted to stay in it until he came around IF he ever did but next time we will find a road more suitable for some higher pulls,

In my experience rider weight impacts the 1000's worse than it does the big bikes. 245 lbs is a pretty big rider for a 10R, imo....even the aero penalty is going to be huge.

It sounds like the 10R, unrestricted and mapped with a full exhaust, will wallop the 14 pretty handily in that kind of race. That's exactly what I would expect.

For most riders I would expect the opposite to be true at the dragstrip.

Yep I knew I would jump out on him, but I didn't think I would hold him off once the 10 started to get its legs under it.

I know i will get flamed for this but you must have a rocket of a 14 'and i am not saying you don't. I have yet to see a 14 in that type race mod for mod get anything but its ass handed to it including my 2 mill that i thought was fast LOL.
I am no fan of the 1k's of any brand for street duty but in a 60-65 mph roll on the new 10 around here leaves the 14's like you accidentally missed a shift.
I am talking better then average riders of close weight , but when riders are switched its the same results.

I still think the new body of the 10 is ugly, why they went away from the 04-05 is crazy, those years were sexy!!!!

One shouldn't have to b that good a rider to win a roll on, simply go thru the gears,, the bike does all the work, from a dead stop is totally different,

I have both - an 09 14 and the new 10. You really have to have the 10 re-flashed (Dynotronics) in order to get the real performance from the Gen 4 10. The timing retard in lower gears is removed and timing added on the high end. Fueling is also re-set in the ECU. The secondary throttle plates no longer close at 11K and are set 1:1 with the primaries. Redline is raised to 14,250 and the speed limiter is set to a much higher value. A bunch of other parameters are also modified. These changes really wake up the 10. Unless your friend with the 10 has had this done he is missing out on a big gain in power - especilly in the midrange and your 14 may suprise him. My 14 (with full TiForce and mapping) according to the old butt dyno felt much stonger than the new restricted 10. The 10 with the Yosh 3/4 exhaust and re-flash -(which is even better than the 'Euro" un-restricted version) is very different. The 10 now screams - on a long run with the 14 it would not be close.

Despite all the early concerns about the new 10 - it does live up to the hype. When re-flashed and piped - it goes like stink. Balance is superb, Nearly as smooth as the 14. Bottom, mid range (the BIG complaint ) are both strong after the mod. Top end is unequalled - period. Ride a modded 4th Gen - it's even fairly comfortable ( 6'2'" 225) - like me, you may change your mind about liter bikes.

You have proof of that statement ? 1/4 mile ETs and MPH ? How about some timed MPH in the standing mile ?
What records has it broken ?

Look, I know everyone loves their 14's. But the 1000's are lighter and quicker in many street situations. It's not like it's a myth, lol.

On the other hand, they are harder to ride and less forgiving at the dragstrip.

As far as setting mile records goes, I learned a long time ago that "setting records" often doesn't mean much anymore. That process seems to be more about chasing the softest record, schmoozing with the right people at the track, and/or having the wind at your back...

At the end of the day the 10R is what it is. A quick and powerful bike that will be fast in the right hands.

Shane i have rolled on raced more that a few 1000s on the street at a 60 MPH start not one had beat me.. Best races were 07 gixxers with light weight skilled riders , They can get within 3 or 4 bikes of me .. I have not run a BMW or New zx10r so i don't know how they will stack up against my zx14 .. I will never find out either because i don't ride on the street anymore .. That is why i ask for proof .. We have all seen what the BMW modded can do at the drag strip and Maxton .. I want to see what the zx10r will do or has done ..We know it's a turd from the factory , what will it do piped and flashed ? Till we see that it's all lip service ..
