09 stock zx14 temp guage pegged at high
Temp guage gets pegged on high, (but does not flash) pretty easy in city rides, only 75F outside.
Is this normal with stock fender, and stock exhaust?
Just making sure as the bike has a used unit 30 day warrantee,
and Im about to start modifying the bike
I dont recal my stock 2006 running past 3 bars, maybe 4 bars, but it was not stock for long.
I bought another zx14,
2009 with 3700 km on it. Its totally stock burned orange limited edition
I noticed it has warped front rotors once they are warm
wont even bother with the dealer an warrantee on that, just gonna call Cory for a set.
The plan is a lighter, but stock zx14 for reliable super sport touring.
CNC headwork,
47mm throttlebodies
Brocks Titanium CT duals
PC5
Speedo healer
16 tooth'
zx10 fender
Undertail
windscreen
Raised clip ons
stainless brake lines
eventually a 4mm stroked crank too maybe

My '07 frequently goes to one bar below high in heavy traffic. I live in New Hampshire, so it's not brutally hot here either. Always runs fine but quite unsettling. In a way, I wish I could turn off the temp gauge just so I don't fixate on it so much. But I know it's a good thing to have. And I have a full Akra, PC, custom map, flies out yada, yada.
I'm wondering just how accurate the gauge we have is considering some people (like you, Lyle) say they have had 14"s that never get above 3 bars and others like me seem to run on up to the top in traffic. And if the problem is only in heavy stop & go (1st gear) traffic, the ZX10 fender (which I have, thank you) probably would not help.
Is there an actual gauge with either analog or digital readout that can be attached? That way we'd know the actual temp and when to start worrying.

I try to stay out of traffic.Everthing about it sucks from the too hot full face helmet to my leather jacket and the heat from the motor.I like when I hit the open road over 70 nice cool air pleanty of power out of my Brock. Thanks to everyone here for steering me to Brocks pipes and maps. From 3 grand to way up it just pulls.I was coming out in first and shifted early and nailed it in second and I don't remember shifing to third it happened so fast.Sorry off topic.

that's not normal... mine didn't do it with the stock pipes and fender, and I got stuck in traffic in arizona on my way from texas to san diego in 100 degree temps. It would however go 1-2 bars from the top and stay there no matter what.

Mine ran pretty hot, you have to remember that the 08 and up have an extra catalytic in the header, whereas the 06-07 only had them in the mufflers.

10-4 ,
well the brown van just showed up with my CT dual exhaust , PCV , 16 tooth, and flyless TRE
Not a big fan of duals, but it makes the same power up top, and 6HP more midrange.
I would still have gone single, but this bike is for advertising my business, so need to represent all the options I guess.
Is it possible to polish Titanium?

Lyle, my 09 ran very hot down here in Florida. I have had it as hot as the top bar plenty of times and I really did not like it either. The bike seemed to always run at 4 bars and as soon as I would stop in traffic it would peg the top. As far as polishing Titanium it can be polished but DO NOT use aluminum polish such as Mothers it will scratch it pretty bad. I know of a chrome shop here that polishes Titanium.

Possibly low on coolant , fan not working properly , stuck thermostat.
I had a bike in my shop recently that had a fan that worked fine when it was cool or warm. When it got hot the fan would malfunction by stopping and starting and turning slowly or not at all.
Had a 14 one time that had the over flow tank hose improperly routed so it was rubbing on the fan. It resulted in the coolant tank always being full but the radiator was only Half filled .
I thought it was strange thay it Didn't over heat though.

Hey Lyle, mine did that when it was new but it never overheated only ran hot in stop and go traffic. If memory serves me correctly it went away around 500 miles.

Lyle my 07 ran one down from being pegged while stuck in traffic. Never higher than that. I ride in the New England and that was probably a 95 degree day which is about as hot as it gets. With over 11k on the clock now seems to run cooler than when new.
