Rear Caliper issue
Hi guys.
I had a moment today which scared the s*** out of me.
A week ago I had new tyres fitted to my loose front and rear rims and re-fitted the wheels as I've done many times before.
Been out since for several rides including a three hour spin last Monday with my partner on pillion.
Everything was working well and as it should be until today...
Approaching a red traffic light in a built-up area, I got on the brakes at around 20 mph and the back wheel locked up.
Having pulled over and investigating I was shocked to discover that the rear caliper mount had somehow disengaged from its slot in the swing-arm and was now located atop the disc and had jammed the rear brake on.
Having stripped everything off and removed the rear wheel I cannot see anything wrong to explain why this should have happened. Re-assembling the rear wheel and brake and testing out all seems to be working o.k.
I'm at a loss as to what could have caused this to happen since, as I say, everything appears to be as it should be.
I'm obviously concerned that this could happen again and thankful that I was travelling at a slow speed when it did. If this had happened on the highway at speed it could have totalled the bike, me and my partner.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
I've had the wheels out of my 14 numerous times as well as dozens of other bikes and have never experienced anything like this before.
Any advice would be most appreciated.....

There is no way for that to slide out if installed correctly, I suspect this is what happened, When you installed the rear wheel the caliper mount, it slid out of place before you installed the axle, and you just did not notice it. Ive seen this happen to another 14 and it was from improper instalation. I bet now thats its installed correctly you will not have any more issues.

Thanks for that buddy. The bit I don't get is, if the caliper mount had become dis-engaged from its slot during wheel re-fit, (which has happened to me before as its a fiddly fecker), then wouldn't it be impossible to locate the axle as it would be mis-aligned? Plus, wouldn't the problem have manifested itself immediately the rear brake was applied?
As I mentioned, I have ridden probably around 100+ miles since first fitting the wheel and I use the rear brake almost all the time.
Or am I just completely wrong with my assumptions?

I think you could aligh the axle with the caliper mount out of its slot, and as far as it taking a hundred miles or so to happen,, it would take time for it to loosen up after you pinch it in place with the 100flb of torque on the axle nut. Keep an eye out on it, I bet it does not happen again. Also if you can post a picture of it now, me or dozens of others can assure you if it looks safe or not.
