Bike won't run while in gear!

So last Saturday the bike had a little stumble and it died on me at the line. I rolled it back in the staging lanes and it started up and ran fine the rest of the night. I just passed it off as some bad gas, or just a fluke. But with MIROCK this weekend I figured I would go ahead and run some Wynn's fuel injector cleaner through it just to be safe. I did this the way Brock recommends and then drained the fuel. After that started the bike and heard a pop, it kind of sounded like an electrical pop, there was a little smell, but didn't see anything unusual. Rolled the bike out of the garage and when I put it in gear it died. It won't start in gear, even with the clutch pulled in, and it doesn't matter what position the side stand is in, and it dies every time it is put into gear. Has anyone had a problem with this before? I am leaning towards the side stand switch or the clutch switch but would like a little input. Thanks in advance.

Justin

Sounds like it has to be the kickstand switch.

That one should be easy, so that will be the first one that I will check. I just hope that it is something I will be able to bypass or get really quick because I really want to run at MIROCK this weekend.

I just went back out to the garage, pulled the sidestand spring off and looked under the bike and something just didn't look right. Took a minute for me to realize, but the forked part of the sidestand switch was sticking down and one of the sides is broken off. So the switch is fine it just wasn't being pulled up when the sidestand was put up. That is a load of stress gone, sometimes it just takes stepping away from it and going at it again, because I was out there for a while before I came in and posted this. Thanks for the reply eklipse.

Beat me to it.

On the Aprilia Futura I used to have, the one in my avatar pic, I hit a witches hat on a track day and broke the side stand switch. I just cut the wires close to it and twisted them together, vowing to fix it soon. About two years later, the bike had to be sold and the switch was still hot-wired...
