Valve Spring question.

I am wanting to add some nitrous on my bike, but I dont want to spray without changing the valve springs. My question is if you need to upgrade the springs and retainers or just the springs. I have an oppurtunity to get a set of carpenter valve springs pretty inexpesnsive but they do not have the retainers it is just the springs. Will this have the desired result?

I used the carpenter springs in my turbo last year, no problems so far.
