zx-14 timing..butterflies
i do not have the zx clutch lever assembly so i will not be using the starter lock out switch..i was told that the ecu will (?) retard the ignition when the clutch is pulled in so that will determine what to do with the starter lock out wires.....do i wire it to start in gear/neutral or just in neutral?.....will removing the subthrottle butterflies improve top end performance any???

wally,
I'm sure some more knowledgeable than i will reply, but removal of the secondary butterflies will not increase top end as the stock version will open them above 6-7K rpm....you will however get a lot more acceleration, from 3 to 7K rpm with them removed because it won't be choking off the air. Don't forget to have a good map for all this extra air going in at lower rpms. Having them out makes the bike more fun and gives you the power you expect more smoothly.
It will also depend on what year 14 you have...I know the above is true for a 2006 and 2007. I think Kawi changed when the 2nd throttlebodies open on the 2008 and forward.

There are a few good threads out there that detail the removal of the flies.
It's not a very hard job but easy to F it up and put yourself in a position where you will be scratching you ass.
Search for removing flies zx14 in google an the first one that pops up should be the detailed one with all the photos.
All I'll say is be patient when doing it.
