fastest unblown ZX-14 in the mile ??

I had the fairings back on the bike and brought it out to Maxon . Saturday was a washout with oil downs and high winds shutting down the track.

With only 3 runs today , we got the bike up to a 215.25 mph pass. Ali was riding today and I was just hanging around to do simple stuff like turning on the nitrous bottle and pulling log files. The 215 mph pass had the same setup as the 207 mph Naked run las october that Ali made. I was a little surprised that there wasn't more of a difference. With more runs and a slightly larger shot of nitrous, it would have been close to the 219.8 mph record . It looks like I need larger injectors to go over the 250 hp E85 setup ,but I should have that for the next race.

I am pretty sure that makes this the fastest unblown zx-14 to run the mile .... Gregs HPC bike only went 215.04 with Chad on it :-)

Thanks Lee.

Roy's bike is a BEAST. I thoroughly enjoyed lighting up the tire, at will thru the 1st 3 gears. As soon as you want to pour on more the tail starts wagging and it gets a bit unruley....but managable because Maxton is more traction limited than the strip.

My vote is for a stickier tire so I'll be sending Roy one pretty soon. 4th gear....fook this thing rolls out. We were spraying really small, just to keep things safe. Always easier to go up in jet sizes than pick up pieces at the finish line.

Roy, tell the wifey I said thanks for the goold o'l southern hospitality, grub was good and things went pretty smoothly both on and off the track.

Going for 220 in the standing mile is tough work but Roy's bike has enough muscle to do it...the devil is in the details....some minor adjustments here and there ... a bit of uncharted territory for both of us but WOT in 4th its clear to me it has the gusto to go 220 in the standing mile.

May should be fun. Roy I'll PM you when I get the tire shipped out to you.

What size injectors are you using Roy? Feel like selling me your 73 psi regulator? Email me at gilberjj@gmail.com if you are.

I am running 660 cc injectors with stock pressure. Looks like they are at the limit with 250 hp so I need to either use the high pressure regulator or go with larger injectors. I am going to check and see if I can have the 550 cc Bosch injectors opened up to 800 cc. That should be good for 300 hp at stock pump pressure. If I can get that done in time I will put them on a set of 47mm throttle bodies and test them out.

Did I? Don't remember. But its definately different than my 12. The 12 I'm always wringing its neck for just a little bit more. No significant wheelie/wheelspin issues once I get underway.

This bike is different...the power is there....its putting it down thats tough. We may do some back to back tests with Roy and I in May to compare wheelspin....I may be getting robbed more than Roy due to being lighter. We both had noticable wheelspin thru 3rd, fwiw. We may also see that he may be more aero on his bike than I am on his bike once we iron out the traction issues. Recall the old Sport Rider with the late Dave Owen and Lee Shierts in the wind tunnel where Dave was more aero but on average Lee would go faster on the same bike .... partly due to being smaller. Roy's bike is low and long, I had 10 different tucks I could have tried but only having 3 runs on the bike we just focused on making minor logical changes. Good times nonetheless. This thing is like a cannon, lol.

I saw Chad go 205.8 ... but I am not sure if that was the fastest run on a NA ZX-14 in the mile.

Very impressive results. Being that the bike went 207 naked with a slipping clutch, there should definitely be some more in it with a little work.

I am pretty sure the best NA speed is under 210, either way. I think the two fastest were Chad on "Inferno" (not spraying), and Chad went 205 on his stock displacement bike last October.

Congratulations Roy & Ali....

I knew that you guys would put up some great numbers. What a team with Roy wrenching and Ali riding!

I believe 220 is doable with a bit more testing, three passes is not near enough. I honestly think you guys will blast thru 220.

I'm not sure on the fastest n/a 14 in the mile either. Back in October when the conditions were good both the boys were spending so much time on the BMW's that they didn't get to concentrate on Chad's bike. I do know on his pass at 205.8, Chad's gearing was way too tall as he was turning several hundred rpm below peak power at the trap. Just never had time to spend on his bike but that will be different this fall.

Once again..........well done guys on your runs at Maxton, I know there's more to come!!!

Dan
