Muzzy m14: M10 Sidewinder or can?
I'm picking up a 2011 zx14 in a few weeks. Spent hours looking at different exhausts and ended at Muzzy. Any of you guys run the M10 sidewinder? I've been really considering that one over the m14 can. Also, this is my first since my '03 zx12r (RIP). I'd appreciate any other tips on changing it up from factory.

If you ride on the street stay away from the sidewinder.

Why's that? Too loud for the law-dogs?

You can't make right hand turns. Well, you can you just need a whole lot of room. A sidewinder with a baffle in it really isn't much louder, if any, than a meg.

Thanks guys. Any other quick upgrades to do to this thing? I'm a daily rider, not interested in stretching it out. And being 6'10, I don't need to lower it. Obviously getting rid of the undertail garbage and throwing frame sliders on, but I'm open to other suggestions.

being that you are 6'10" I would probably do a set of bar risers, and a buell lowering peg setup. On the streets, a 16t front sprocket is lots of fun also. a zx12 rear wheel is a direct swap (by keeping the 12r brake rotor and just plugging the sprocket from the 14 wheel into the cush drive) and will free up some rotating mass.

He means the older M10 style meg that bolts on the M14 headersand mounts to rear foot peg. not the "Sidewinder Drag" system you have to remove the lower cowl or cut on it.
A open M10 style Meg is louder then the oval can for the M14 like I have. I ride with 4 other 14....... 2 have Brocks. For the money a M14 is a Great buy and makes about the same HP.
Buell pegs and LSL Bar kit is a must for a person 6'10" I am 6'4" in my boots and I hve the LSL AN1 bars on my 2007. I set up like a Connie 14. Easy on my old back. :-)

Thanks guys. Yeah I can't wait to pick this thing up and tear it apart. Figured I'd break it in then switch the exhaust out when I change the oil. I'm definitely going to drop to the 16 tooth front.... Should I switch out the chain or is 500 miles (approx break-in point, right?) still going to be new enough that I don't need to worry about the chain wear?

Keep the stock chain for stock wheel base. After about 1000 miles it will stretch out enough you can run 17/43 or like me 16/43. Killer roll on's in 6th gear. 2nd gear wheelies so easy :-) be carefull until you get use to the 14. Buy the Kawasaki Zephyr 16 front as it has the damper material on it and Hard Steel.

being that my 12 had the work done to it before I got it and our time together was short-lived, I did zero work on it. what do you guys mean by taking the flies out? Ive seen that g2 14s dont need it done, but i'm tired of being in the dark on this one

The secondary buttrfies in the intake track. The newer ZX-14 has a different EU and they open somewhat faster then the 2006/2007 models did. Do a search on" Removing Flies"

Thanks Jarhead and LAB3. Anyone know if the '11 front sprockets are compatible with the '10? The only 16-tooth fronts I'm finding only go up to 2010.

Do a search for the Kaw part# for the Kawasaki Zephyr 16 T steel front.(runs quiet) From what I have seen the all the ZX-14 use the same front sprocket. Takes a 27MM 6 point socket and get a new locking clip washer for the sprocket nut.

Found the 16T for the Zephyr on kneedraggers.com if anyone else is interested. Found through a search that the '95 fits the 14 and runs $38. The zx14 part numbers for the washer and nut are 92200-0260 and 92210-0237.
