Probably would trap a good 3 mph on the BMW unrestricted. After sitting on the zx10,the tank feels and looks huge compared to the rest of the bike. Maybe with an extended tail section?? I figured it would end up out running the beemer, like Kaw didn't bring a few to the Jap track and run them..

Yep, guess the Kow's in that neck of the woods don't take kindly to Bavarians trying to tip them over.

That's interesting. In the 1000cc sports bike test just published in the UK Performance Bikes mag' the Fireblade did the quickest quarter (10.46) the Kawasaki was next (10.49) and the BMW next (10.64). For top speed the Fireblade and the Kawasaki were both clocked at 184 and the BMW at 189. Not a lot of difference really.
On the road the Kawasaki was the worst to ride with the lowest torque and less power than the others below 11,000rpm. The Blade was the favourite with more power and torque than the other two where it matters, between 5,000 and 10,000 and the easiest handling. I guess every test will be different depending on a number of factors and what you set out to show. Of course I'm always going to be impressed by a speed test done by riders in jeans and cotton jackets !!!

I agree with you BobC,most of the road tests will differ,as I said a while back on the forum we did our own speed test against 2 BM's,one with only a can,and one with full pipe, pc etc ,the zx 10 was brand new 250km on clock with only a can,all good riders weigh approx the same, and the zx beat the 1 with a can about 8 bikes, and ran head to head with the modded BM up to limiter.
Here in S Africa the zx 10 took the first superbike race meeting, both heats,so I think Kawa said they build a race bike this time around and toned it down for street riding.
But it's early days for the 10 only time will tell how good the bike is.

That's a cool video!
We still don't know how the bikes are geared, weight of the riders etc.
IMHO the guy on the BMW had a horrible tuck and should have been much lower on the tank with his chin just above the top triple. This solely could have been the result of him being walked in 5th and 6th gear.

I thought his tuck looked pretty good. Better then most tucks you see in videos.....

Well, that's a true squid holding on for dear life on the withe 14.
You can clearly see that his uper body is kept on the bike due to his grip on the bars.

That dude on the beemer was STICK. The 10 realed him in the front door and spit him out the back with distance, the difference is all out horsepower. Like comparing the bmw to last yrs liter bikes.
The thing i think people are forgetting is the 10 has only a slip on, the bmw has a full system. Let me go get a set of cans on my 14 and take on your 14 with an alien head..... I think the answer is plain to see on what bike is faster in a gear for gear race, and its not even close.

Watched the video again and the guy on the BMW has no clue how to properly tuck on the tank and behind the screen. His helmet should have been at least 4 inches lower and his elbows
fully tucked in. That flapping pair of pijamas on him id also doing him no favor.
He was up, then down (somewhat close to where he should have been),
then up again...
In my experience on a road course and on small displacement bikes,
that could be the difference of 5-10 mph at the end of a straight.
I know there are guys here that do LSR and top speed runs and they also could chime in.

Wasn't the US spec bike suposed to be neutered above 11K rpm?
The 10r also appears to be lowered in the still pic in the begining of the video,
can't tell about the bimmer but my guess would be stock height.

This is what the guy on the 10r claims he has on it:
Leo Vince exhaust, power commander, lowered 2.75" front and rear, geared -1 in the rear, data log tuned, VP fuel, removed power restriction's marchesinis 10 spoke mag wheels, braking rotors

5 mph is a lot. A whole lot. I knew it would hurt some people's feelings if the Kaw beat a BMW...
What is so hard to believe? Better prepped and ridden bikes go faster...
posted March 08, 2011 02:24 PM
Ummm, that's where both of these bikes were designed and purpose built for...
to go fast... Straight line acceleration, braking, change of direction etc.
On a serious note, I still like the BMW more. It's certainly not build "cheap" like
Kawi puts together the 10r. And I've owned a 10r.
