What fairing pad is this?
Mines an 08 and i have never seen this dohicky before. Have a buddy with an 06 and he is stumped on where this foam pad came from other than it fell out of a fairing. About 1" thick. Seems to be a little cooked and broken in half, maybe?

Sure looks like (half of) part marked #39156 ('06) on this fiche (just above center of diagram and it is surrounded by a fine black line).

1. Where did this foam piece come from?
2. How does it go back on (over which parts- any details would be helpful--not always obvious how those softish pads go back in the fairings.
3. Why is it only on the '06 and not later models?
3. Is this pad necessary or beneficial in any way? What does it do?
Thank you in advance fellas.

MMMMMMMM--that's what I thought at first, Leo but the coolant res pad has a rectangular openning where it adjoins the coolant bottle. Here is what 1" pads I have in my 08. Both on the left (clutch lever) side-- one in the lower on water pump and other on the coolant bottle.

I don't think the top photo is either of these pictured here. It really looks like diamond shaped one at center of the parts fiche------but I do not have that on my bike. Must be just on the 06?????????

^^ I like that -have to remember that one---"passenger side of bike>" Good. Works for me. Lot less confusing than rear brake/sprocket side.

I figured it out.
I have an 06 service manual and it shows this pad in one of the appendices.

BUT I STILL NEED HELP WITH MY 08!!!!!
How the heck many fairing pads should I have? I can only find 3. Two on the left (water pump and coolant reservoir) and one on the right radiator hose). Am I missing any?

To clarify, the top pad in the pic with squared hole goes over coolant reservoir.
The top pad in pic with round hole goes on the large radiator hose (covered with braided plastic material)on throttle control/front brake lever side of bike.
The bottom pad in pic goes on water pump.
Should I have any other of these pads on an 08? Am I missing any?

What you need to do is take your fairings off and throw all that shit away. Then you can worry about important stuff on the bike.

I'm slowly but surely taking off rubber mats and a few other odds and ends. Can't bear to do anything that can't easily and inexpensively be reversed. After this year, I'm doing what I want to do. An 08 with 35K miles will not be worth more than a few grand anyway. Resale won'y be much a part of the equation any longer.
Seems to be confirmed that above pic shows all 3 foam chunks that are removable from fairings and sides of bike. All other foam is stuck on.
