20g vs 16g

Here it is. I got the bigger 20g so I could put down some serious power. 300whp should be EASY considering it flows 650cfm. A small 16g flows 505 cfm and a big 16g flows 550 cfm. Here's some pics...

Internals are stock except for carpenter valve springs and a thick head gasket to lower compression to about 10.3:1.

Price difference is large. The 16g is made by blouch, using true Mitsubishi internals. It costs $650 new. The 20g is Chinese made and I bought it for $170 shipped. Time will tell if it was worth my money.

The Chinese Turbo's that we have used have performed very well with no failures. As far as I can tell the quality is very good.

The compressor housing is thin, but that is my only area of concern. The 16g is a much higher quality turbo, and it would be better for thestreet, but I will keep it until I know the 20g works well.

Have you tried bolting it up and checking for clearance yet?

Not yet. I know it won't fit without removing the oil cooler. I bought the block-off plate, but I didn't have time to mount up the turbo. I'll mount it up very soon, but I have to finish a couple other little things before I mount the motor up again.

edit: I've been told by someone with first hand experience that the 20g will fit after removing the oil cooler. From what I've seen, I have no reason to doubt this.
