ZX14 Custom Fuel Cap...Lex/Clear!

Hi,

I have seen these Hex Clear Lexan fuel caps for the 14 on ebay.
They do not have the keyed rubber pressure sealed style like our stock ones do.
They look fantastic....do they work well and if they are not sealed is it worth it?
I love the look....but don't want fumes or gas leaks.

Any input?

Thanks!

if there is no seal i would stay away.
It would have to leak somewhere or sometime with no seal present.

But that's just my opinion.

I'm with 13 on this one too......I'd think it would HAVE to seal for fueltank use, but it should also be vented to keep pressure equal inside the tank.......definitely ask the seller about seal and venting before committing to buy

If it leaks, water will get in there.

I didn't think lexan held up to solvents and gasoline. It'll haze won't it?

I bought an aftermarket keyless machined aluminum cap from ebay and installed it. It didn't fit flush like the stock one but sat slightly above the tank. The first time I hammered the brakes fuel rushed out the front bottom of the cap down the bike onto the header. Had to pull over and shut the bike down. Sent it back to the guy and put the stocker back on.

The Vortex caps for the 14 work very well, unlike the Ebay one you speak of. The Ebay one that I tried was really not designed for the 14, and fit as you describe.

Funny, my stock cap didn't seal right either and when I tried to get the warrantee to fix it they said it wasn't a problem. I said how can a cast aluminum piece that doesn't line up not be defective? I'm afraid to bend it since it will probably crack at the pivot. I took it apart and put it back together several times and it seems better, but I still have to really push hard on the lid and turn the key to get it to latch. fail!
that's when I found out the factory 1 year warranty is worthless unless your engine blows up. imo

After reading the add on ebay, these are listed as "Lexan glass" which may hold up to fuels/solvents better than simply lexan plastic........kind of a trick lookin' part though

not what I pictured. looks like the plastic could be replaced if needed. Maybe acrylic would be better? I dunno about acrylic but I do know it handles vibration and impact better. Look to be a screw in type.

good luck with and make sure you let us know how it works.

Sounds like a risky part to have fail . Guess if we dont hear from you after installation we will know why.
