gilberjj's turbo build (project: fastest ninja in the NW)

First things first, thanks so much for everyone helping me out throughout this process. I realize I ask a ton of questions, and it can get annoying at times.

I named this project, fastest ninja in the Northwest. I think it helps to be ambitious. To my knowledge, the fastest ninja in the NW is a zx14 with a 40 shot that ran 8.67@163. My bike will be longer, and have more power, but will I have the skill to outdo this other bike???

Here's a list of the stuff I'm doing to the bike

Turbo kit:
cycle logic partial turbo kit
evo 3 big 16g turbo
tial 38mm external wastegate
gen 1 dsm blow off valve

Engine:
custom cometic .070" head gasket (lowers compression to roughly 10.29:1 compression from 12:1)
carpenter heavy duty valve springs
muzzy block off plates

Clutch:
Brocks real street springs and spacers

Fuel system:
Five-o motorsports 700cc injectors
walbro 255lph in-tank fuel pump
begi 2025 rising rate fuel pressure regulator

Chassis:
12" over swingarm (I will probably get this from SB Customs)
Revalved drag race shock (either BMC or Trac)

Sorry for the sucky pictures, they were taken on my iphone.

Disassembly

I had to drill and tap the oil pan for a feed to the turbo. There's a little clutch dust in the pan..... That's what happens when you get in 25+ runs at one test n tune...

Partial turbo kit

Now the turbo....
I'll explain what had to be done here.
As you can see from the parts list, I'm running an external Tial wastegate. Since there is no room for a wastegate on the manifold, I removed the internal wastegate, added a divider to the turbine and wastegate area, and ported the heck out of the turbine housing to ensure I'll get enough exhaust flow for low boost (to make sure the wastegate can bypass enough exhaust gas).

The porting begins

Ceramic coated the exhaust housing, and here's what it now looks like on the bike.

Lowering the motor to pull the head (what at pita)

Custom cometic head gasket

Carpenter valve springs

Here's a shot of the motor. Pistons and cylinders looked great. No vertical scarring on the cylinder walls, and you can still see the cross-hatching marks from the honing.

Keep everything organized!

Hmmm..... I did ceramic coat the turbine housing, but a shield should be easy...

Interesting.... never noticed that. What do you think it is? Here's a closeup

2 important notes......

1. I'll be using e85
2. The most I'll use is 3:1......... I might sell the begi and get a 1:1 though.......

If you're running leaded fuel (race gas), that will kill o2 sensors. And yes, heat will kill exhaust sensors too. Move it more towards the tip of the downpipe.

I had not planned on getting adjustable cam gears. I just can't see .05" making a difference.

I was planning on tuning for 11.5:1 under boost on e85. VERY safe

That wont work to well on e85

Why do you say that? e85 allows you to be quite generous on timing an a/f ratio. I'm not going to push it, and I'm planning on a nice and safe 11.5:1, but I'm curious why you think it won't work well on e85.

because you are tuning for a gasoline a/f ratio, you'll need to tune for a E85 a/f ratio.

unless you mean you going to tune for what 11:5.1 would be on gas engine and covert it and run that on e85

9.0 to 10.0 is what you target on E85 what my research has come to concluded .. E 85 tuning is new to me also ..

i think its from the way the coolant flows and its a hot spot .. when a piston goes it will be that cylinder on that valve cup , if you look at the head gasket you will see that area is block off . and the thermostat sit right above that area in the head ..so its the last stop for the hot water since the cold come in on #1 cylinder and in the block

see how on the gasket the holes are drilled on the intake ports and then they skip 1 and do the other port on the outside by the cam chain on #4 . I'm beginning to think the coolant flow is coming up from 1,2 and 3 and flowing into the thermostat and blocking off #4 cylinder ,

but i haven't found nobody yet smart enough to figure this theory out yet
