loss / damage claims

I have a bunch of stuff coming from the company that wrote the damage/loss policy below. I DID pay extra for shipping insurance. Is the UPS guy going to stand there and wait while I open everything and give it the green light? I asked him to wait while I opened a package that arrived today and he simply told me he's not resposible for that.

All claims for loss or damage in transit must be made to the carrier at the time of delivery.
You have to tell the UPS person or other carrier, at the time of delivery, that the item is damaged the same day the item is delivered. You can not wait two or three days to file claim. The insurance on shipped parts is with the carrier, not Schnitz Racing.
The original box or package must be kept for the carrier to inspect. Don't throw anything away, keep it in the original box, with all of the packing materials. This especially applies to bodywork.

Unless the box is crushed or has a big whole in it, the UPS guy is going to laugh at you and go on his merry way.

That's what i figured. Sounds like the extra 2 bucks is worth while for some stuff like electronics. I used to sling packages at UPS and all of that stuff was totally abused. The biggest stuff was often handled the worst. Had one company that used to ship there stuff in boxes made of plywood joined with drywall screws. They even screwed grab handles on the outside. I'm sure the boxes added to the shipping fee but that was the best shipping insurance I ever saw.

Thanks. I have never had a bad experience with deliveries yet but I just thought I'd ask other's opinions.

I had a $5000 vacuum pump arrive, broken in half from FedEx. The package looked like it arrived, dropped straight from the plane, while on approach.

They denied the claim?!!!
