Shock Revalve and Spring

So, I know that this topic has been done a million times, but I was hoping for a little help with my decision. I called several people today after reading threads here and of course I have got conflicting information.

To start with I am 165 unsuited and the bike has all things chrome extensions that are almost to the end, so should be around eight inches over.

Adams wants $300 for just the revalve and said that I wouldn't need a spring at my weight even at the length that I am at.

Traxxion wants $325 for a revalve and a spring and said that it would be ready to bolt up when I get it but I definitely need the spring.

Racetech wants $410 for a revalve and spring and said that a revalve would be $290 but strongly suggested against just the revalve. I did mention Bikeland and was told that if I get a discount it would be 15%.

I also PM'd EddieK on psychobike and he quoted me $400 plus shipping back. He also said that I would need a spring but I don't know if the spring is included in that price.

And of course I could go with Lonny at BMC but that would just be a revalve as well.

My previous best 60 was a 1.45 with little seat time because I was deployed a lot over the last few years, this was with the stock clutch and foot shifting. I am on shore duty now and will get more seat time. Plus I installed an airshifter and it will be lowered more, installing a catalyst drag seat and a tiger undertail and a zx10 fender to get lower.

So what do you guys think? Any and all inputs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Justin

Bmc is worth the money. With his you have to set it up yourself. Mine came with all the adjustments screwed out. Still worth the money. I'm 215 suited and I have factory spring

Yeah, that is kind of the direction that I am leaning. I hear great things about Adams/Litz, but it is hard for me to drop that money on a revalve. Plus with the price of the BMC I could still add a spring later and still be under the price of some of the others.

most of the magic on that rear shock is in how the valving is set up. You have to control the shock no matter what spring is on there. Just make sure the valving will suit the spring you have, or maybe a slightly stiffer spring later if needed. They should be able to set it up that way no problem.

That is something to think about, I will have to see what he says about the vavling for a stock spring versus a slightIy stiffer one. I was thinking I am going to use a stock spring now, and maybe upgrade if needed. And I may decide to upgrade while I have it apart.

being that your a darn good rider I would talk to some of the good riders on this site and see what they are running. some of the guys are you weight so this should take some of the guess work out of it. I'm doing mid 1.4's now just went this sat. and sun. wheelie and eklipse636 seems to have a good setup maybey you should pm him for some good info.
but quarter pounder only runs 1.5's so don't waist your time with him.

there you go, stirring again...lol But don't knock quarterpounder too much, he runs those 1.5 60s on a stock wheelbase bike.

I went with a revalved shock from BMC. The price was right, and the shock seems pretty good right now, the rebound is nice and slow and its pretty stiff. Now I am just waiting to get out to the track March 5th. I went 1.46 before on the stock shock, nowhere near as low as I could have been and foot shifting. Now I am lower, with a revalved shock, and an air shifter so I don't have to concentrate on getting my legs up quick to make that 1-2 shift (which at my height makes that kind of difficult).

No seriously, will I benefit from a revalved rear shock? I weigh about 190 suited.

I would say yes and if you are 60' like that at 190 then yes. Many will disagree but the getting a shock revalved will cause it to rebound much slower. Which in turn will cause you to hook better and should 60ft better.
