Which Chain Breaker/Riveter is Best?

Motion Pro Chain Tool.
http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/08-0058/

RK Pro Chain Tool
http://www.sprocketcenter.com/p/102321/rk-pro-chain-breaker-and-rivet-tool-kit.html

I need to replace my drive chain and would like to do it myself. Either one of these chain tools is going to cost me ~$100. I don't need to change chains more than once every two years so I imagine this will be a once in a lifetime purchase.

Anyone share an opinion about these or one of them? ....or any other chain tool you like?

The Motion Pro tool you listed is a toy. It will get the job done but just barely. It's better suited for smaller chains. The RK unit is the better of the 2. Motion Pro does make a larger breaker simular to the RK but it's a little more money. EK also has a larger breaker very simular to the RK as well as DID.

I'm really glad I asked, Ted. The RK looks beefier. I'll stay away from the Motion Pro unless I get their heavy duty breaker/riveter.

That EK is awesome. That looks like it will git 'er done. (scroll to bottom second page)

Hope I can find a source. Did not find a place to order this from. There is a corp phone # at the bottom of last page.

I checked on Schnitz' site and looks like they have a chain tool on the EK 530ZZZ chain page. The case that the tool comes in says RK and it looks just like the RK. I'll ask if they have the EK too.

That DID does look nice. No handle but that might be better. The huge EK handle actually looks like it might create a floor clearance problem with the bike on a rear stand. Could always put some boards under the rear stand to get a few more inches.

That's what also happened to me. I thought I was ordering EK and have receiver RK. I had to send it back for exchange plus I had to pay more for EK. It has to be one of the best out there.

Yep got a pic right up above. looks super sturdy. Only thing I'm not sure about is the lack of a handle. ....Although I see you can get a wrench on the flats of the screw housing--then you get another wrench on the screw. Gives you some optional angles to hold the thing steady while you tighten down. I suppose the chain tools with a handle, you only can hold the handle at one position which is perpendicular to the chain.

Got a motion pro, done about a dozen chains with it, works ok, but be sure to buy extra 530 size pins as those fuckers break all the time. I'd buy something heavier duty next time.

My main bitch about the little Motion Pro is that I about broke the damn thing in half every time I was pressing a link together. Then it didn't mushroom the heads, it broke them. My new tool is FAR EASIER to use.

^^^^You got the big honkin' EK. That's the one I want but it's pretty expensive. Plan on doing a lot of chain work possibly so I think I'll get it. Sorry about the pics getting deleted above. IDK what happened. Can't go back and reinsert them at this point but you can copy & paste the url to view.
