Bought another bike at the auction tonight

Not many bikes at all tonight mostly 4-wheelers. I bought a 2000 Hayabusa that the tag said had electrical issues. Does not look like it has ran in a long time. Has chrome rims and a custom paint job that's seen better days (Orange and white), shield is busted, farings got some cracks. no battery. White seats. I will take some pics and post them tomorrow when it's light outside. I got it for $2100 plus a $40 dollar buyers fee. Best thing about it is the title is good. Should be a money maker.

I've seen low mile 04 and 05's for 5000.00 that are nice. maybe if you get running and clean it up you can make a quick 1000.00 which is good money IMO

Yea, depends on whats wrong with it. The clean title frame would bring $1500 alone. The bodywork can be fixed and painted one color for cheap. It looks rough, But has potential. the motor turns over freely, 99-00 had the fuel pumps mounted behind the cylinder on top of the engine case. a lot of those had trouble with Fuel delivery. they also had aluminum shift forks which sucked. in 02 thay switched to steel shift forks. Tip over switches were bad about corrossion also. It has a set of the highly sought after 220 MPH gauges that are mint, I'll start stripping it tomorrow.

They still do pretty good around here on resale, everybody wants one to do a custom wide tire on. They make so many parts for the Gen 1. I may take it apart and Ebay it. depends on what it needs to get it running. pics in the morning.

pics of Busa

Somebody's pride and joy fallen to the wayside. Orange and white is not me but the quality of the paint job at one time was very good. It's weathered now. All stock with a Jardine exhaust. I am going to see if I can get it to crank, Chrome wheels a dirty and will clean up they don't have any flaking or pitting of the chrome. Triple tree chrome is coming off. I can strip it back to bare aluminum and polish it. chrome levers and bar ends look good.

problem found

Well i Found the problem and another one. The Fuel pump Assy. on the 99-00 models sits behind the cylinders on top of the hot engine. the pump is fried and also full of rust. I looked in the gas cap and the tank was good. after stripping the farings off I found that the bottom of the tank was rusted pretty bad. So I scored a 05 tank with some scratches off of Ebay for $120 bucks. I will have to paint it black anyway. The Fuel pump Assy. is mounted in the tank from 01 and up. A much better setup, So I can ditch the 99-00 pump assy. and tie the wires to the new tank with the pump in it. I have decide since I will be off for 3 weeks at Christmas Vacation I am pulling the motor to freshen it up with new bearings, change out the aluminum shift forks to some steel ones I already have and put some new rings and the Carpenter head on it off of the other engine I had. I will take pics during the build. Here is stock 99-00 Fuel pump Assy. setup.

Shows how much I know about Busa's. I never knew they ever mounted the fuel pump outside the tank on bikes.

taking it apart

Started getting ready to pull the motor. Here is the early TB's and pump Assy. off the bike They just bolted all of it on the TB's. pump smells light burnt wiring,

This pic is what Suzuki used to insulate the pumps from heat. I guess it only took two models to see it was not a good idea. proably kept the heat in.

Amother Sweet find was that someone had just put a Jardine can on a nice stepped Muzzy header. It is undamaged and in good shape.

Finally I am ready to pull the engine after I take the chain and sprocket cover off.
Got to get it done so I can order the parts I need.

Looking good, with the upgrades & body work it might be a keeper, well for awhile anyway. Gotta enjoy 'em after all the work it takes to revive them. Might try Jet-Hot coating on that header, they do a killer job & make one that looks like chrome. jet-hot.com

I may now put my last stage one Busa Turbo system on it. It's a RCC that I bought used for $1200. Very simple and makes 225-240 at the wheel pretty easy. I also need a swingarm too,

Tear Down

Loose valves bucket beat down

Had a nice set of cams with adjustable sprockets

also a 1397 newer piston kit, number 4 rod was about to spin a bearing. rod is still good. crank may be toast

See the worn Aluminum shift forks, How much weight did that save? they used steel after 2 years

Talk about a worn cam chain guide

Trans had some ware, I have another one I will put in.
