Shane refer to my previous post and look at the pictures. I tried to quickly snap a bunch of pics and some may criticize the clarity but i posted all the pics even the crappy ones i guess. But check them out and see what ya think. Atleast now you're seeing my problem. They gave me no true answer on what happened. They said it just failed. Even a Kawi rep looked at all. You tell me. I just want answers like you all do. Why do $8000.00 in repairs and not even justify it to the customer? They said their warranty is just that. We fix it but sometimes we can't explain it. Man I'm so stumped on this it makes me sick so you tell me man. I think they should just pay it off and be done with it. I think the Department Of Public Safety Should step in and say we don't want this death trap on the Hwy. It's not just the rider that could get hurt but an innocent child or civilian could get seriously injured as well. There was no evidence of oil starvation that was a definite answer they gave me. They said it simply warped, spun, locked up, failed and they would fix it. Sorry my head still hurts and now my fingers do to haha.

I assure you in the beginning I approached it very glad, thankful, kind and professional. Hell i kissed a$$ til the end. But in the end is when I started asking questions they could not answer. So no it's not how I approached it or you know as well as I do they wouldn't have even fixed it. So yea , 3 month's later it's done and still no explanation. Go figure........

So your wanting them to make up some crap? If their are no signs of failure anywhere, and It just happened, what else do you want to know???? They gave you the answer, "it just happened"
Lol, call the dot and tell them your one out of 25,000+ bikes that had a motor problem and it's not safe to drive.
Maybe the need to recall all the 14's...
Better yet, I'm calling KAWI home office and telling them I want them to pay off my bike, it dosent feel safe to drive

If you think these bikes are death traps then you are in for a surprise if you ever ride a Harley or a Ducati when the decide to fail at random for no reason!
I've had about 4 harleys that came into my shop cause they broke while idling or taking off. 2 Ducs came into my shop , 1failed on my lift cause the timing belt broke . And another one broke a transmission when I put it in gear. And this kind of thing happens all the time with just those 2 makes of 2 wheeled crap!

How do we know this is the only one tho guys? There are alot more zx guys out there than just this forum. I think it's a serious problem and only an investigation would reveal how serious. The fact is we don't know who else has had it happen to them but maybe, just maybe ,someone will see this and email me and I can add names to the list. I do care about saving lives and I think that some of these models should be recalled and replaced. It's the only way to ensure safety. When toyota had their problems it started as just being one guy who swore he could not stop accelerating. It then turned out to be this huge process of recalls. Maybe my one insignificant zx14 will be the beginning, maybe not. But it happened to me and I survived. Sorry if i thought about someone getting killed because some guy was mad at his wife when he built this particular line of motorcycles. It could be isolated to just one month's worth of production ya know. But it's still there and something needs to be done regardless.

I think you should pursue your case. Like you said , who knows how many more are out there.
I know when I hit the 200k mile mark on my 14 and if it locks up I won't blame anyone but myself for putting that many miles on a motorcycle

I Did ride through a storm just before it happened and told them that. I asked if the strain on treading all the water and the severe wind pressure would warp the internal components and they almost laughed and said no way. So i ruled that out to. But i really think that had something to do with with the final failure. Like saying it was almost ready to fail then the added stress just caused it to blow. No wheelies no hard riding other than storm riding ofcourse.

LMFAO, if you told a tech that you thought maybe the rain or the "severe wind pressure would warp the internal components" and all they did is "almost laugh" you got off light. Is there anything stronger than LMFAO to describe the laughing that I am doing?

I think Hardleys should be outlawed cause they're too slow ,drop oil and parts all over the place so we can crash because they get in the way and contribute to slippery roads.

I put that in there to see you laugh and lighten the mood I suppose. I been doing some research and if you google it then yeah there's been alot of zx14 engine failures. Alot of #3's and 4's and a few #1's. I guess number 2 is Invincible lol . So it's not just this one. One guy had his shoot parts and oil all over the hwy and his rear tire but managed to get away clean. It had 15k on it and was well maintained per his statement. Since i started this post I called the president of a few big clubs in Atlanta and one said he had atleast 10 riders with 14's that blew up. Only 3 or 4 got fixed under warranty tho. The rest were either out of warranty or denied. He said one guy lost his at 120mph and shot him across the interstate like a rocket and he was hospitalized for about 6 months. He survived and has lawsuit pending. He said he didn't know exactly what happened but gave me his number. He said he thought he remembered the guy saying it just locked up for no reason but didn't specify if it was engine, transmission, tip over sensor or what. So atleast now I know of one other serious problem with this bike.

One of the other Pres I spoke to said they have a cop who rides one and he had his number 3 go out last year and kawi paid for it then it went again and they made an agreement and got a huge discount on a new one. So I'll just have to keep researching but so far from just google and a few phone calls It happens alot more than you guys think. I won't be able to name anyone due to lawsuits but you can believe when they are paid I'll tell the world lol. So anyway I'll leave it to you guys to have some fun with but there is a problem with the 14's engine failing and that's a fact.

My main concern is them telling me Mine will probably be right back in the shop for the same problem due to scratching in the oil pump housing on the case. So why they wouldn't replace it is beyond me but the KAWI rep approved it so that's on them if it fails again. I hope and pray if and when it does that the person makes it out alive but i hope it atleast slings that bike end over end like a football and makes them take this problem seriously. Good Luck to you all and ride safe.

Yes the dreaded bearing failures! That happened to 2 riders in local clubs here.
It seems to be hit and miss.

How many people blow their motors up and then claim that they were maintained in a shitty fashion?

Many of us have been on this board for years, and we can probably count the non-abuse related failures on perhaps a single hand (and maybe two toes). Does it happen? Yes. Does it happen to other bikes as well? Yes.

I don't know what caused your issue, but your posting here that "ZX14's are death traps" simply doesn't fit the reputation of this motorcycle. I mean, we literally pound the dog shit out of these motors, and generally they are tough as hell.

Shane

The 2 club riders were using Kawasuki oil too. I think the Kawasuki oil is trash and shouldn't be used in anything!

Anytime that there is an engine failure on a motorcycle it has the potential of being deadly IMO. So that is just a risk we take when we ride I suppose.

Shane I have nothing more to say to you and you can post all you like but i refuse to even comment on such ignorance.

No offense, but you come off like a complete tool.

If you deal with Kawasaki like you present yourself on this board, it is no wonder that you didn't get the results you were looking for.

So, again...what was the exact cause of your engine failure, and why do you think everyone needs to check their bearings??
"

You STILL havent answered Shane's question and he has asked it like 3-4 times now..........why is that?

I'm sorry about your bad luck and definately glad your ok!!!.......but just callin it like I see it I gotta say your the one making a CLAIM that the engine seizing is a common problem then not producing any evidence at all to support your CLAIM and not answering legitimate questions either.

You have a vagina for sure! I can tell by some of the things you say/post. Also, you making a claim about rain and wind hitting your bike making your engine internals do some sort of warping just make everything you say a waste. You're an idiot dude, sorry.

Went to a kawasaki shop the other day and saw a used ZX14 for sale....After hearing about the oil leak problem for so long I wondered if that random ZX14 would show signs...So I go over and peek into the fairing and there is oil and gunk all over the front of the cylinder obviously originating from the valve cover....Something definitely isn't right.

"I recently tore it down to get the diagnostics correct after locking up at 140 while let out of it from about a 200mph run for about 2 miles or so on the interstate".
.....................................................................................................................................................................

So total_chaos you want kawi to pay for your 200 MPH for 2 (or so ) miles ? If i was Kawi i would not have paid for anything after you said that .. You act like this happened at MPH 70 just riding along ...You better hope mother Kawi doesn't read this and trust me they read this website .. You just cooked your own Goose ..
