I am 170ish suited and these don't look like they are flexing at all.

If the pressure on the bolt was coming from the side, I could see it bending. But pushing straight on it... It would take a lot of force to bend that bolt... I still don't think the axle nut was tight.
And yes hardware has got really cheap. The bad thing about higher grade bolts is they don't bend, they break.

Extension still straight

The left side bent because the bike flipped and landed on the rear rim, and the pressure from the axle bent it. No cracks visible. Right side perfect straight (I wouldn't use them, just sayin)

So to say extensions are no good, I disagree.

i guess grade 8 bolts are junk too. because i bent those too. .. not only that but i have my chain tight .and on launches my chain jumps teeth on sprocket ..i can hear and feel it ..others watching hear it and in pics i can see loose chain when parked it tight . .. this is a new chain and sprockets with a chrome moly arm and under braced .. not like its worn or anything .... bottom line fatboys and dragracing don't mix ... ..

moving 835lbs @280hp with 1.48 60ft is rough on my gearing and arm ..if i leave at 1.55 its ok and don't skip . i'm a bracket racer anyways and found bikes limits and use what i can ..

Can I see a pic of those bent Grade 8 bolts? Grade 8 bolts should not bend. They should break. They are too brittle to bend much. Also, did the bolt have 8 on the head? If so, it was most likely a Class 8.8 bolt which is equivalent to a Grade 5.

Are they metric? If so, usually Class 12.9 is the deal if you want strength that exceeds what you need in this app.

It's ironic that this post showed up... I just noticed that the sprocket side adjustment bolt on Erica's SWB ZX14 was becoming distorted after a few low 9 second passes. And yes we do run will the axle nut not torqued to the proper spec.

the grade 8 bolts don't bend up like the 1 's in the pic from roy .. but they bend enough to let the sliding adjuster by and throw the chain .. but as long as i keep my axle really tight its not a problem

1Bad, I have to call bullshit on you. If you have the axle tightened properly, I really doubt what you are saying. Bigger guys than you put these things to the test..

Maybe get a new torque wrench, and clean everything up??

what i been telling you .. I KEEP MY AXLE TIGHT NOW . then its not a problem .. but i don't care what bolts you put in it. they will bend if that axle nut is not tight .. . but go find out for yourself . your good at calling bullshit on things you have no clue at .( i'd) rip the fukking adjustment bolts right out of your aluminum adjusters on the sprocket side without a tight axle .

ps theres members on this forum that watch me bend a dayum stock swingarm launching with extensions .. hint reason for chrome moly underbraced arm with the 3 hole solid adjusters .. i'm shock that the zx14 output shaft hasn't been ripout by me yet .. like the busa guys do ..
