Anyone tried towing a zx14 with Corolla ?
I have a 2003 Corolla with a 5 speed .. My open trailer weighs less than 250 pounds and my bike weighs 505 ... Total of 750 pounds , give or take a few pounds ... I will be using a Class 1 hitch.. Gross towing weight: 2,000 lbs, Tongue weight: 200 lbs , the Tongue weight is much less than the 200 pound rating of the hitch ..
Anyone tried this ? I know it's not going to be a rocket pulling my bike but i'm not looking for speed , im looking to save some money on fuel .. My truck at 10 MPG is cutting into my track money .. My corolla gets 33 in town , I know pulling the bike it's going to be less than 33 MPG but it has to be much better than 10 MPG my truck gets ..

Only problem is that little econobox will end up cosing more in repairs & wear than 10mpg in your truck. I've got a shithole '03 minivan for work with 100k & every time I haul something in a trailer it complains, tries to overheat, shifts weird or blows hoses. I basically quit using it to tow with cause of problems. They just aren't built as work horses like the full size trucks are. But hey maybe yours isn't as big a POS as mine.

well i pulled my 14 with my Scion xb same thing as a corolla 1.5 liter 5 speed to houston and it gets 33-34mph in town and on highway the car ended up getting 21-22 mph all the way but i also had alot more weight than just the bike i had a set of supra wheels and luggage for 6 in the car. but it pulled it good no problems,

Can't really say bout the Corolla but I generally pull 650lbs+ behind my Goldwing not to mention having my fat ass on there. Shouldn't be a problem as long as everything is in good shape.

A few years back i was using my short wheel base Geo tracker V6 and a 5x8 steel trailer. It was around 100 miles each way to the track, pulled OK,but sure did bounce alot.

Now i use a van, nice having all your stuff inside in case it rains,or to keep thieves away.

Corolla should pull it but give yourself twice the braking distance and more room for pulling out. One of those single place trailers should be light enough.

You'll be fine. Our HHR 2.2L fully loaded pulling a trialer gets 26mpg on the highway. Hell we used to pull a 14' bass boat with a Chevy Luv. Your Yota probably has twice the HP that LUV had. The LUV had a top speed of 75 mph! LOL

Years ago early 80's I had a JC Whitney open trailer, and towed a GS1150 and KZ1000 with I believe was a 4 speed I MARK Isuzu , everything was okay . However I really had to plan the stopping distance. You will be fine just plan the stopping distance.

I've been towing my bike all summer with my vw jetta tdi. It only has 100 hp but it has 150 lb ft of torque. It has the dsg (dual clutch automatic) gearbox and doesn't seem to have any problems. It doesn't even downshift for anything but the steepest of hills. Pulls 70 mph at 25-30 mpg all day. I've gotten a best of about 33 mpg while towing, but generally get about 28ish.

It'll handle it Lee, but give extra room for braking...Those little rotors & calipers work hard with the bike & trailer...

Comparing a jetta to a corolla is not the same. I've owned 2 jetta's. The brakes are big for the car. A corollas brakes aren't much to speak about. Just make sure you give yourself plenty of room.

It'll work just fine Lee. I pulled my brother's and my KZ1000's on an open trailer to Daytona for Bike Week like 10 times with a '80 Nissan 200SX with a 4 banger 5-speed and it done great.

I just ordered the hitch and plug and play wiring .. I'll get it installed and give it a shot next week ... I'm sure it will be fine , It maybe a bit slow but it should get the job done ....
I'll add a few extra yards for stopping distance ..
Thanks guys for the info ....

I've towed my ZX14 with my 2008 Honda Civic sedan, it does an ok job, but I prefer using my wife's Subaru Forester XT instead.
