on my zx12 the 16/44 maximizes the stock arms wheel base all the way back. my chain i doubt would of let me go smaller than 44 rear.
my best was a 1.62 60ft that way strapped. but it was hairy

great write up smokin, you really show a passion for the sport and for others to do things right. paying attention to the details and was able to run last saturday on a cold 45 degree day got a few 9.0s with 1.40ish 60's. too cold to even be able to focus so we left early. but thanks for write up...looking to break the 8's without the spray!!

The factory tach reads higher than what is reall doing .. 11200 is really about 10600 .. For guys just starting out i would get a shift light .

What do I set my shift light at?? 11200 or 10600?? Thanks.

Getting there I ran a 9.88 @ 143.9 mph needs to work on the first half of the track to lower the times. Comin around though.

Hi everyone. Just joined the site and I have to say its awesome. I've owned my 2007 zx14 with 60,000 km for about a year, and i've had a chance to run about 20 to 30 passes down the quarter this season. My question is about sprocket size and how fast can the bike go? For mods I have a 9" stretch, flies removed, smog blocks, lowered in the front and back and I still have the stock headers with a Muzzy slip on.

Best times

17/41

9.407 @ 146 mph
1.47 60 foots Launching @ 10,500 and attempting the snap and slide

on the average though

9.5 @ 144 mph
1.52 60 foots

17/47

9.5 @ 141 mph Launching @ 5,500 and attempting the snap and slide, but she
1.42 60 foots wants to come up most of the time

I find the bike to be way to agressive though with a tendency to want to 12 o'clock and maybe suffering from such a hop up on the rear sprocket. I weigh 156lbs.

Any advice or pointers.
Im relatively fresh to drag racing, but would like to know if im in the rite direction.

Cheers

Update from the last time slips.

I've removed the slip on and run straight from the stock headers, strapped the front end which made a substantial difference, and did a sprocket change. Someone suggested 16/43 and it made night and day difference. Here are the times.

16/43

1.38 60ft

5.7 @123

7.555 1000 ft

9.045 @ 149.6

Still foot shifting with no Power Commander.

Here are some questions, thanks for your thoughts.
Should I decide to keep the bike for the next season....I will have questions...
I want to lower the bike....links and slide the forks up?
Tires...I need tires....Shinko? What about the front tire? Longevity? I might go to the track twice.
stock gearing or 16t? Is the bike quicker on the street with the 16t? I felt my ZX9 was slower is -1 up front.
I don't like the long stretch look...I can go just 4" longer?
I can do crazy wheelies, will the 4" stretch and lowering control that?

16 tooth yes
shinko 003 ultra soft yes
three hole lowering links yes
3/4 of an inch down in the front forks yes
strap for the front end yes
4 inches will give you 61 inch wheel base and will still wheely but less than stock ..
stock front tire is fine ..

bike is 06 zx14 . what mph? took the 14 to the strip last week. i am 215
lbs unsuited. i was running 9.95 -9.90 @139 on a 1.62-1.65 short times. all stock, lowered and strapped. 16 tooth cs. stock rear. usually 113 114 in the 1/8. i ran three 1.60 shorts but it was bracket racing, so as soon as i caught the other guy i lifted..so not sure but prob 9.80s no pipe or pc yet. mph seems down to me. what are some times and mph from similar setup?

on a side note the 3500 launch does not work for us fat guys...lol my best were about 5k.. but really dont look at tach, better luck with sound of motor. great sticky, thanks for info..

Hey, Smokin: I hope you don't mind that I post even though I have an '08 Concours 1400 Chris Jones turboed/dyno tuned, water/methanol injected, '07 zx14 throttle bodies/injectors, 2 stage boost controller for street/strip, lowered/strapped, elec. shifter, flies out, dual Muzzy CF exhaust, heavy valve and clutch springs, CP forged 9.5 CR turbo zx14 pistons, defeated speed limiter, Shinko 200 wide Stealth ultra soft rear tire, PC III usb and hub. There is not much drag racing info for C14 riders, especially with performance mods like mine. I'm down near Ft. Myers. Maybe we'll meet up one day. I'm 75 and looking forward to my first drag race. Chris is supposed to deliver my bike any day now. Bike is stealthy. Only mods visible are the Muzzy exhaust, Pingel elec. shifter and the Shinko rear tire. The bike will be strapped/lowered and a Catalyst Composite step seat wil be visible at the strip. One thing I can't do that you guys do is stretch the bike since I have a drive shaft. We'll see how that works out. Thanks for your drag racing info. Lew
