Aftermarket wheels
I'd like to upgrade the wheels on my 2009 model and have been looking on E-Bay at both used and new prices and would like some recommendations from someone who has done the switch.
Here are my questions
Can anyone supply the weight of Bare front and rear wheels so I can compare wheel to wheel weights with aftermarket??
Is there a brand I should stay AWAY from? these will be used for street use only.
Is there a TYPE that I should avoid (carbon fiber, aluminium, magnesium etc)?
If there is a set of wheels for say a GSXR1000 can these be easily adopted to the ZX?
Does one manufacturer make this more simple than another? Marvic versus dymag for example?
Any/all input greatly appreciated.
Thank you

The best OEM wheel to use is from the 10R, imo. GSXR wheels are too much work to fit.

I would say avoid magnesium. I've seen them break after a couple years. If it were me, I'd buy carozarrias (sp). They are forged aluminum so they're light, plus they look great, and all for about $2000.

I got new Carrozzeria's off of ebay. I paid under $1300 shipped for the set. I did not weigh them VS the stock wheels but they are lighter. Plus Carrozzerias customer serivce is excellent. They were willing to answer any questions I had when I was installing them. I have about 4K miles on them and they have been great so far. Much nice than the RED stock cast wheels.

04-06 Yamaha R1 wheels are really light and are easy to fit. We use them on our GSXR1000 suz. bikes and it will get you about a tenth. YOu can score a set off of Ebay for a few hundred bucks. Plus they are a good looking wheel.

What are the details on mounting them to the 14?

Carrozzeria:
Tri-R...race-only wheels, very lightweight, according to the manufacturer. Use CBR 1000RR rotors, which come with the set.
V-Track...heavier, and have shallow drop centers which can make manually mounting tires a bitch, based on common feedback. Not as light.
Like I say, 10R wheels are an attractive option...

Shane,
Are the 10R wheels a direct bolt on replacement or are there modifications that need to be made?

OSR sells a mounting kit:

Great option for a very reasonable cost!

I just bought an 07 14. I have some really sweet polished ZX12 wheels. Does anyone know if the ZX12 wheels will fit directly to the14?

The rear will bolt up directly, but you need to use the stock 12R rotor. The front won't work...the 12R rotor spacing is wider than the 14's.

The eBay Carrozzerias were a factory closeout and sorry to say, the deal is over. The 10R wheels with the OSR kit would be a good choice if you can get the wheels cheap. Either swap is worth doing, the stock Enkeis are HEAVY. LSL

So Larry - noticed your tag - and I am curious - what are your records at the standing and flying miles?
