ZX14 vs ZX12r Street Use ?
I've got an 02 ZX12R with 18,000 miles, full Muzzy, PC3r, stock suspension, Puig double bubble, and heli bars. I don't race, only street use, hot rodding around town and a few weekend, or longer, trips during the summer. I'm trying to decide whether to do some suspension mods to the 12, and possibly a big bore over the winter, or pick up a low mileage 07 14 now and sell the 12 in the spring.
Does anyone have experience with both bikes on the street and provide some evaluation feedback about your experience?
The ZX14 feels like a much more refined machine, but other than that, which one handles better, brakes better, etc?

Unless you are in love with the 12, get the 14.

You will never get that money out of the 12 if u buy a bunch of mods for it. I say start fresh with a 14. Then again I like change

For what it is, the 12 is a sweet ride considering it's lifespan vs. aftermarket availability thus far.........but I'd upgrade simply because the 14's a superior machine in base form..........and when you mod it, holy sh*t!!

I have both, I have a ton of money in my 12, so it can't be compared to a stock machine.
When the 12 is setup proper it's pretty hard to beat. Some folks think yhe 14 handles better.
It handles different and it steers lighter, but the 12 is definetly more planted in the corners.

Thanks for the great feedback. Based on your replies, my 12 goes on sale in the spring! I just pulled the trigger on an 07 14 with 5,300 miles on it. Hope to pick it up this weekend. It has a couple yosh cf slip ons, pc k&n, undertail. I'm thinking about a TRE and getting it remapped. Man am I stoked!
I thought the 12 might be my last fast bike, ha ha ha...........It is a great machine but like gilberjj said, change is good.
I have about 250 hours into polishing the wheels and swing arm on the 12. I've had a ton of compliments on them. They are almost chrome looking, in fact a lot of riders thought they were chrome. I might put them up for sale separately. I'll post pics sometime this winter.
The owner of the 14 said he called the dealer about the frame when the recall came out and the dealer told him the bike wasn't in the recall group, but when I checked the vin against the frame recall post in this forum the number WAS within the range. Guess I'll check the torque on the rear engine mounts myself just for the peace of mind.

The zx12 was one of the best bikes ive'd owned. 14 is faster on the straits but the zx12 is a damn good sportbike it will lean like a 1000 and eat up some streights... But it's dated, if u want a new bike get a 14. But I would get a 14 instead of a big bore kit

I am in awe!
Just picked up an 07 14 with 5300 miles. Far exceeds my expectations. I can't believe the torque. The handling deifies the size. The bike is like brand new. Immaculate!
I'm an old guy, but there's nothing like a fist full of ZX14 to turn back the clock!
I love my 12, but it'll be for sale come spring.

Congratulations!! You can ask around here, but honestly I wouldn't dick with a TRE, just pull the 2ndary flies before you map the bike -- then you'll have even more awe inspiring power
