Serious Question about my top end

A buddy of mine has his bike geared at 16/43. He is complaining about topping out at 175hp's. Is there anything more he can do to get more top end or will he have to go back to a 17/41? Right now he has a full Brock AH, PCV, BMC AF, Speedohealer, Lowered 1.75 and stretched 6" bike is mapped to Brock's Maps. My suggestion was to go back to the 17/41? He likes how the bike pulls but tops out early. He doesn't do track yet and rides on the street mostly.

16/42 or 16/41, depending on how much more top end he wants.

195-200 mph will take 17/41. In fact, I think most who have broken 200 mph have actually used 17/40. You need to take about 3% off of the speeds listed by Gearing Commander, and you need to measure the circumference of your rear tire.

It depends why your buddy runs lowered gearing, you say he doesn't sprint the bike? The stretched specification suggests it's set up for sprinting. It will still top 180mph with 16/43. If he seriously wants to top 200 he's geared too low. Also LSR riders tend to run a stock wheelbase to get more weight over the rear end. He will get lots of slippage at the top end running 6 inches over.

I was running 17/40 on my 14 (like Shane661 said) and got it into the "nines" over the quarter and exceeded 200 in LSR. See below.

BLK ICE is right, your buddy needs to have a look at gearing commander and make some choices.

Max: 203.1 in 1 mile (so far)

There is a device called a rev-extender that from what I've been told will give you another 500 rpm but I have no idea how a stock headed 14 would benefit from that.

Ya' know,,,,,,,,, that reminds me of something. My bike geared at 16/41 GPS'd at 169.2 on the limiter. Doesn't that sound slow?

Sounds like you were in 5th gear.

Unless your clutch was slipping very badly, there is no way that could be accurate in 6th.
