ZX14 47mm throttle bodies....

Some of you zx14 guys might be interested in this....

This weekend we tested the 47mm throttle bodies at Rockingham and got some 1/4 mile results to go with the dyno numbers.

We tested them on Rickeys Gadsons 2 x 5 zx14 and he picked up 5 mph on motor. His best previous al motor pass was160 and with the 47mm throttle bodies he made several 165 mph passes. On the spray he went 189mph!!!

On the dyno we are seeing well over 20 hp and the track says 19 hp. So at this point the real world data is backing up the simulations in the computers.

Next is the big stage 3 head test with the 50mm throttle bodies.

Encouraging news,Jim I see you are making strides figuring out the ZX14 cylinder head...how strong would this motor be if the head was more like a 12 or a Busa head? Am I wrong to assume the 12 and the Busa have better cylinder heads??

Yes the zx12r and the busa head are better flowing heads for a given valve size. The zx12r head is better than the busa head and if the zx14 had a 12r head on it it would be worth some power for sure. Going by flow mumbers I'd guess about 5-8 HP?

Rickey is a consistant tester for sure, thats why we like working with him. He's a great guy also.

question is, what would it pick up on a stock bore and stroke bike.

And it also don't hurt that he's a well known racer using your parts.. A little exploiting a well known name

Jim's stage 3 head is designed/simulated specifically for big cc's, mojo cams, OS valves, high CR and wild cams.
I'm guessing on a stock bore/stroke motor the increase would be very disappointing.

Your right Karl, the gains wouldne be nearly what they are on the 2 x 5

We haven't tested them on a stock bore stroke bike so I cant say for sure. My guess would be about 4-6 hp up top.

How can you make that statement when you don't know what our arrangements are with Rickey.

Rickey Gadson would be another face in the crowd if he didn't have strong bikes to perform on.....

yeah right, you can have the baddest built bike in the world, but if you have no talent or skill its going nowhere..

To say Rickey would be another face in the crowd if he didnt have strong bikes, would be like saying Michael Jordan wouldnt have done what he did in basketball if it wasnt for his nike air jordan shoes.

So the 47 mm injectors work on modified setups where more air and fuel was needed, sounds good. Glad to see folks taking the next step on mods for the 14.

Rickey Gadson another face in the crowd unless he is on a top flite machine...now thats a good one...maybe you should ask how did Rickey become Rickey? He wasn't always riding top flite stuff. Jim this ZX14 head seems to really like the big tb's,can it be simplified thinking that the effect is similar to using a big or maybe too big of a carb on an engine...in the manner that the head/eng combo likes the way the air/fuel atomizes better because the air flow in theory slows down a little? I agree with Scott 5 mph is a huge gain at those speeds,I am sure you would have been satisfied with 2.5-3 mph just bolting them on.

I was shocked at 5 mph. Its about a 19 hp gain. I was expecting about half that.

Rickey is fast on anything he rides. He has a lot of talent. We were talking about LSR one day and he said he's wanted to try it. The problem was that the AMA drag racing schedule had events the same weekend as the LSR events. When the AMA drag racing shut down he was then able to do some LSR.
We were also going to bring the CompetitionCNC race bike to the 1/4 mile and do some testing and eventual racing with it as well but those plans got delayed as we hurt the engine late in the day on Sunday at Loring.
So we went to plan B on the 47mm throttle body testing and tested it on one of Rickey's own bikes, a 2 x 5 at Rockingham.

Scott, we were running the 50mm throttle bodies at Loring.
