ZX-14 Weight
Went to get a price on some mulch and I parked on the scale and my 14 weighed in at 540 lbs with a full tank of gas. Seems heavy to me. Anyone else ever get a weight on their 14?

560-565 is commonly quoted...and accurate for a bone stock bike.

514 pounds on Wheelers scale at Tail of the Dragon.
Bike had 1/4 tank of gas.
Removed tool kit, reflectors, and small pieces. Also have Muzzy CF exhaust.

Mine is 455 lbs. with 1.5 gallons of gas; I had thought you were more concerned with stock weight.

I know I got a huge savings getting rid of the stock exhaust, anything I saved with the Carrozzeria's was probably cancelled out with the addition of the center stand. I guess 540 is not all that bad!

How big a defference in performance between Carrozzeria's and Carbon Fiber wheels?
I am a 280lb pound rider, I have a zx14 2009 everything is stock. I am ready to start work on my bike what do you think the pecking order should be in building my bike for speed...
I have about $1000.00 to spend right now...

Welcome! I would go for a full exhaust with a powercommader if you have $1000 for upgrades. Thats the best Hp for the money upgrade. Nothing is lighter and more expensive then Carbon Fiber wheels. They are awesome if you have the cash! I have been using Carrozzeria's for about 8 months now and loving them. They are lighter than stock.

Look in the classifieds, Wheelie has a Street Meg for sale, really cheap, you could pick that up and a Power Commander and be way under a thousand.

Exhaust is personal preference but I run a Yosh full system 4 into 1. I found a great deal on my Yosh system directly through Yosh and I got my powercommander from fuelmotousa.com. Those guys sent the PC with a custom map for my exhaust and the bike has always run great. I know they offer packages for an exhaust system and PC which will get you all set up since they are a tuning center and they make thier own maps for your specific set up. They will even tell you how much HP you can expect. Check them out. I am about 320 myself and I run 17/40 which I like. If your looking for more of dragracing gear go with a 43 in the rear or just drop the front down down to a 16. There are alot of members here with vast amounts of knowledge here about the 14 so you came to the right place for performance advice!
Heres a pic of the Yosh system

Welcome to the site Drelo-
I would suggest trying a 43 tooth rear sprocket to start, Vortex rear sprockets go for about $50.
Also, you can pick up a new Muzzy 4 into 1 exhaust for around $650, and plan on getting a Power Commander for about $300. Muzzy can provide a fuel map.
Swapping out the factory dual exhaust for a 4 into 1 exhaust will eliminate about 30 pounds of bike weight.
After you add the exhaust, then pull the secondary flies.
All of these mods will give you about 180 rwhp, your bike will weigh about 520 pounds, accelerate harder, and you will spend about $1,000.

Thx zxrider11,
for starters, what i did was try to correct rider error first, so i'm stretching my bike (extension, chain and brake cable) and getting lowering links, I'm also re-gearing my bike to 16 in the front and 44 in the back... bought a TRE and FATTYPIPES slip-ons to start... all lest than 700 dollars. Power commander 5 is next and later on I will get full exhaust...

LOL...sounds like a challenge to me...430 lbs....and rideable to work....hmmm.
430 lbs. would be no problem, track-only...or should I say, I know what it would take.
