electric prob, (zx12)
Ok, so ive got new battery, and had my stator rewinded,
got a secound rr just in case,,
So i install the new stator, and a second hand RR known to be good,
start bike up and at idle im getting 13.9 to 14.1
start to rev bike up to 4k and then i see the volts dropping down to 12.9
but no further than that.
so i change to another RR and same again
I unplug the lights and then rev to 4k and i get about 13.8-14,1 volits.
I then unplug the RR and the bike picks up about 500 revs.
Ive got a gear postion sensor, a rev light/battery indercator, and a in line volt meter /lap timer .
also a yoshie ems.
Also i had a problem with the clutch switch, so i bypassed this a month or so ago.
Im about to go to a shop and get a auto elctric to have a look, but was hoping some one here may have a idea
cheers

have you checked for voltage drop on battery cables, grounds, etc.?

That sounds like something is heavily loading the circuit . Especially as you say "I then unplug the RR and the bike picks up about 500 revs".
Are you sure the new battery is a good one?

The voltage is not supposed to drop at higher rpms. It is supposed to peak out and stay there unless there is a severe drain on the system or the RR is still not doing it's job.
You already replaced the stator and the battery with new stuff. I reccomend you replace the RR with a brand new one and see what happens.
Also is your volt meter accurate? I had one that was acting up and read a charging system wrong just like you described .

Ive used 2 volt meters, and the same reading each time..,
ill get a new RR, and check for any drain,

are you taking readings from the battery only? if so you need to take readings at the generator and at the regulator. if you are seeing differences in readings check main power cables for drop (high resistance). with the engine running measure voltage between battery + and gen +. if you a get a voltage reading the battery cable has to much resistance. check all the cables and grounds that have to do with the charging system like this to determine the cause of your problem is not in the wiring or hard grounds. if all that checks ok then you have a circuit that is pulling to many amps. at that point isolate all circuits individually to find your problem

You don't say what model year the ZX12 is. The early models like the A model I owned had a poorly made connector connecting the stator to the RR. These often failed, in my case it actually melted. I've heard that some caught fire! I ended up soldering the connections. Later models had individual connectors for each stator wire. (Not that Big K would admit there was a problem with their design)
Just a thought.....

Its a 03
I have put a new stator , and RR on today,
idles at 14v
but as soon as i rev ,even slightly the volts drop.
Im going to pull yhe harness and go throu it,

before doing anything drastic use yr voltmeter and see what the voltage is immediately out of the reg whenrevving to 3-4K, then measure again at the + battery post.
I had yr exact symptons and it was simply resistance in the connector of those thick white wires in the battery case.

So, i have changed the white wires around the battery and coming from the RR,
I have found that when i unplugg the lights the volts stay at 14.1.. and only drop on start up.
as soon as i plug the light back in the volts drop, as soon as i touch the throttle ,
and keep droping , to around 13,6 volts at 4000 rpm.
I have the correct bulbs,
any help would be great.
Cheers
