Jet Hot
Was cleaning my bike last night and noticed the headers are starting to get a little rust on them. I know Jet Hot coatings would solves this, would there be any draw back to having them coated?

Just the cost. If you have this done have them coat the inside too.

Really? The inside to? whats the advantage of that, and I have not looked into the cost, do you have a ballpark figure?

Rust from the inside too. I have no idea what the cost for one header is. I use to work at a motorcycle exhaust Mfg. and we used Jet Hot. There several other companies that do this too.

I have debated on wrapping my headers in the wrap, mainly to help withthe looks and heat, but if I decide to take the wrap off later will it stain the pipe?

Haven't wrapped my 14's header yet, but had an old Yamaha track bike that I'd wrapped up and it does help with heat transfer away from the engine, but as far as stain or rusting - I'm not sure -- never took it off before selling her.........one would think that the wrapping would still allow moisture to penetrate on the pipes, but the less you ride the more chance there is for condensation to pool up on the inside of the header -- which would make sense that the header could "sweat" through the wrapping, from the inside out, in the right conditions.

Best thing I ever did was to get the headers ceramic coated. I got mine done in silver. Keeps the heat down and 1 and a half years later they still look polished.

I have been getting bike and car headers ceramic coated for about 15 years now, works great.
you have various colour choices, but you also have to consider the temperature protection level of each colour. I have a couple of sets of header pipes done in that silver/chrome, looks great, runs cool.
however, my ZX 14 throws off so much bloody heat in hot weather I had the stock header titanium ceramic coated, just the outside because of the catalytic convertor in the header of the 08/09 bikes. The titanium ceramic coat is not exactly a fashion stattement, it is kind of an olive greenish colour, but it holds up to heat to about 1,900 degree F and is a great thermal barrier. When I reinstalled the coated header on the bike and took it for a ride, the heat blast from the motor was hugely reduced, and you can literally briefly touch the titanium ceramic coated header pipes of a running ZX 14 motor with your bare hand without burning yourself.
also supposedly speeds up exhaust flow by containg the exhaust heat in the pipe.
subsequently I also heat tape wrapped the header in black heat tape, just didn't like looking at the funky olive colour of the titanium ceramic coat....
lots of companies besides Jet Coat do ceramic coating. I had mine done in Calgary, Alberta, Canada at Top Gun Coatings, they did a great job, was about $120 for titanium ceramic coating the outside of a stock Zx 14 header..

My old Muzzy m10 system had a ceramic coating on the headers. It noticeably reduced heat onto my legs.
