Sportmax Q2...1st ride is in

Finally got out today on the new rubber.....These things are pretty sweet, after about an hour of moderate riding to get a feel and scrub them in a litlle I picked up the pace and started to up the corner speeds...Weather was sunny and 85 so the pavement was plenty hot and they stuck like glue plus were really really stable, I never felt that unstable feeling that the stockers gave me in the corners (hated those tires)...They felt good under panic braking (damn tourists) I never felt like the front was gonna slide or wash out like it did more than once with the stockers....

I ran the rear at 36 and the front at 34 to start per my google searches for street riding, I'll prolly leave the pressure alone for now until I get some more miles on them but thats a really good street starting point.....FYI I'm prolly in the 250 range w/gear...

Overall these things are g2g IMO, keep in mind I'm not a racer just a dirtbag truck driver so your results may vary of course..

hope to get out after dinner to wear the titties off and color in that last 1/4 inch of the sidewall..

ETA I went with a 55 rear per my searches on this site...

This is weird. I just ordered a set of these for my 14. Should be in next week. I got an email about them and thought I'd give them a try since I've never ran Dunlops before.

mike_zx14- That's comforting to know because I had the Dunlop Road Smart and you would never be alive the post a ride like such with that series(IMHO)

I agree, they are dangerous slippery garbage. Unfortunately they lasted far too long. Eventually I just burned them off in the driveway. Michelin pp's work well also & give a lighter feel than Dunlops.

I had a dangerous slip and slide with Bridgestone BT016 front tire a couple months ago. Won't go back to a dual compound front only a softer compound. Here's a couple pics of my worn out Michelin Pilot Power 2CT rear. They grip quite good but the carcass is pretty soft. I'm gonna put a Bridgestone BT016 on the rear.

2ct's were my first choice but I got tired of the back order thing so I went Dunlop, I was anxious to try the 2ct's......I had regular Pilot Powers on the 12r and my KTM motard wanna be and loved them...

3 tanks of gas in the last 2 days and a whole lot of secondary roads, really diggin on the Dunlops !!

@ kaw now (I had a dangerous slip and slide with Bridgestone BT016 front tire a couple months ago.) If you had a dangerous slip why replace the 2ct's with a bt016 aren't the bridge stones less grippier ???

That is a good point and it looks bad on paper. The real issue for me at least was braking of which 99 percent or more from the front. The hard compound in the middle of the front tire is too hard and lets loose without warning on the 016. My front tire is still the Michelin Power single compound tire which wears good so far. I don't see the need for the hard compound on the front. The rear I've never had one break loose unless gravel or whatever. I like the Power 2CT rear but it didn't last very long a couple months or so.

OK, I understand that rationale I had figured if the front's performance was less than stellar why replace with a rear of the same type. Also with a 14 wouldn't it eat a dual compound tire up faster than a single compound tire ?

Pilot Road 2 will last about 6,000 miles. No Burn outs :-) good street tire for every day use. Pilot Power 2 in a 55 series on rear does turn quicker but does wear out faster.

Pilot Road 2 190/50/17 with 2,500 miles. Pilot Road 2 lasted 6500 miles. No burn outs.

I just looked at the front and it still looks great surprisingly no real wear down the middle yet. But even if it wore down faster for 100 bucks plus 15 to mount its worth the insurance factor.
