The BMW is a fantastic motorcyle. It appears to have rewriiten the rules of speed for this year at least.
Comparing a zx14 to the BMW................
Strengths for zx14: Torque, comfort
weakness: weight, comparing apples to oranges less peak hp.
BMW
strengths: Peak hp, handling, brakes
weakness: torque, comfort.
In my opinion the answer is simple own them both.
I don't currently own a zx14 but I thought it was a better overall streetbike than my BMW because of (comfort, torque). It was fun doing trackdays as I could get a great drive off the corners and generally create havoc for those trying to pass me on a trackday. Besides it mass the only other major weakness was lack of ground clearance. When i would push the bike hard on a trackday I would deck out both sides of the fairing and the exhaust pipe.
On the mountain I would more than hold my own against the literbikes. Yes, it was definately harder to get around a corner but there were many days on the mountain were no one could pass me.
The truth is I miss my zx14 and those of you who don't own the BMW are missing out in a different way.
I love my BMW, it does everything I want it to do. It accelerates quicker (minus the 2k cellar type roll ons versus the big bikes). With a set of helibars installed comfort is now tolerable for semi distance rides. It's got fantastic brakes and handles very good too. On the race track it really comes to play. With all the whizz bang electronics it helps keep you from being stupid.
On our local race track I used the same corner to check the traction control. First, I put it sport mode with the stock metzler tires and pushed harder and harder until I got the rear tire to slide over and over. Then I pushed harder until I got both tires sliding in the same corner. In sport mode the engine would seem to hit a soft rev limiter and no matter how much more gas I gave it it refused to accelerate until the bike was completely stood up. Fun stuff indeed.
Next I tried it in race mode.the results were the same except for the soft limiter was alot less abrupt. It really instills confidence in the rider as I knew were I could ride (near the edge) it and remain somewhat in control. I never tried slick mode until I got a pair of slicks spooned on.
I'm a racer at my local club. However, I was mainly instructing and never raced this year until the end of the season. I spooned on a set of slicks( stock suspension, geared but not properly for this track and full akra and pc5). I raced three events that day and have never had any race experience with this bike. As the day progressed I ran faster and faster. My last race for the day is called ULGP(unlimited grand prix ,expert) and anything goes. This is the preimere race of the day and the fastest guys in the club.
I got a fourth place finish, to be fair about it I was no were near the front guys as they were about 2.5 seconds a lap faster but I had a great time. This bike has alot of potential: with a little more practice, and some supension upgrades I could crack a podium finish.
In short the BMW is a far better track weapon than a street weapon and that holds true to any Literbike vs. Bigbore comparison. My normal race weapon is an 07 GSXR1000 with a bigbore, carbonfiber wheels, 25 mm cartridge kit and tripple shock on the rear etc. . I've raced this bike in the two previous seasons and the fact is on my third race I matched my best time that i did on my GSXR. I'm sure I can run better lap times on my new BMW if I race it but I bought it to use as a streetbike.
I'm hoping they will make a zx16 or busa 16 to spank the current crop of literbikes. But its probably not likely to happen anytime soon.

Hey genius..........how is it a "THREAT" when someone responds to your silly little challenge with a similar one..........so if I asked Smokin or Shane to race I guess that would be a "threat" huh.
Secondly Einstein how come when your ass gets called out, its too far to travel to Florida or wherever but we're all supposed to travel 1500-2000 miles to race your inbred ass or we're afraid.
You got a double standard and BS ignorant talk for everything Art........in fact i'm willing to bet Turdbomark is probably one of your sockpuppets and that fat inbred retard showing his ass to the world is probably you.......
Two sure fire ways to spot a troll are the constant double standards and the projecting onto others by calling them trolls.........so just shut your ignorant inbred mouth old man no one wants to hear your crap.

One last thing anyone who THINKS a VMAX can beat a ZX 14 or a Busa in a dragrace, top speed race or whatever is either retarded or a troll.............and I actually like the VMAX a lot and wouldnt mind owing one as second bike at all, but seriously the ONLY way a ZX 14 or Busa loses to a VMAX is if the dude cant ride at all or if the VMAX is so heavily modified that you cant even call it a VMAX anymore............stock vs stock or with equal mods No way in hell a VMAX wins unlless ZX 14 or Busa rider cant ride!!.............The Vmax's 67 inch wheelbase and big torquey motor helps the less skilled riders who arent as good at clutch and throttle control and body positioning to launch it takes the skill out of dragracing much like playing Texas Holdem with wildcards takes the skill out of poker.

Smokin didn't you and a few other 14 guys get together at a drag strip when the new V-Max first came out, with that other dude that was on here smack talking about how his new Max would kill a 14 at the drags, and another Max or two, and showed everybody (including him) that the 14 stock for stock against the max was quicker? Switched riders around even to keep it fair I believe?
Which means a busa would be quicker, and so would every liter bike, and so would those same bikes mod for mod lol.

Yep, probably about a year ago Jay "Pee Wee" Gleason was even there riding the bikes........Smokin rode Bad Max's bike a bunch of times and was at least half a second faster if not more on his own ZX 14............power to weight is a huge component of drag racing and there is just no way a VMAX can spot a ZX 14 150 pounds and expect to win unless the guy on the ZX 14 cant ride.

Yes we did and it was an easy wins for the zx14s ..Any liter bike , Busa or ZX14 with a skilled rider will easly beat a Vmax and that includes a Modded Vmax ... Now i will say , if a guy shows up on a ZX14, Busa or Liter bike and has no drag racing skills and the Vmax rider does you may get your ass handed to you .. That day that i was riding the Vmax for Bad-max i raced a stone stock Busa and beat the Busa 3 times .. But the bike was brand new and so was the rider .. That same rider and his stock busa a few weeks later after some seat time was running 9.60s and not 10.00s he was running when i raced him on the Vmax ..

Lets get back to the topic at hand .. ZX14 Vs BMW 100rr ... Brocks BMW 1000 RR set up for Super sport class has dipped into the 8.80s with a light weight pro Jocky .. The ZX14s has also run in the 8.80s racing in super sport class ..
Lets go back a week or so to the Maxton mile .. A BMW 1000 set up by Brock ran 200.23 .. Brocks ZX14 ran 200.59 back in 2006 .. The bikes are so darn close , on any given day either bike could win ..

Those numbers dont surprise me, they are about what I would expect with all the hype............i like the BMW (dont think I'd ever own one though) its a big step forward getting that much horsepower out of 1000CC's..........just wonder how the clutch would hold up for drag racing,,,,,,,,,,,since it has no where near the torque of the bigger bikes that clutch would take a lot more abuse during constant launches than a ZX 14 or Busa.
The REAL question for me though is when is BMW gonna make a 1400cc ZX 14 type bike that puts out 220 horsepower and when will Kawasaki and Suzuki respond to that!!!

NO Vmax has run 9s stock .. Imfastoo claims stock 9.97 BUT it was not stock !! Race ECU , Modded air box , Mirrors removed .. Lets not forget the day they claim it ran 9.97 there was snow on the ground , so they had killer air ..The Pictures they posted that day clearly showed snow on the ground and Imfastoo claimed it was sand in the picture ...lol..
The fastest Stock Vmax was 10.04 done on Bad Maxs Vmax in the FL heat .. It was Victor Gotay riding the bike . Victor weighs around 140 pounds ... Victor is one of the top AMA riders and was the AMA Super Street champ and record holder..
Unlike Imfastoo claim of a 9.97 we have the 10.04 run on Video as proof that it happened .. All we saw from Imfastoo and turbo mark is a time ticket that they could have picked up off the ground ..
