Painting ram air intake covers.

Has anyone had any success painting the ram air intake covers (the ones that cover the air ducts)? I've had the grilles painted on my ride, and would like to smooth the surface and paint the intake covers too. Can anyone tell me how to go about smoothing the texture on the panels for painting. I've thought about just sanding them smooth, but don't want to wreck my plastics if it doesn't work.

I think ordering the smooth replacement covers would be money well spent Stephen. Have you seen the carbon fiber covers? They are sweet.

I am not a big fan of carbon for my bike. I'd prefer to paint all my plastics to match the bike.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Maybe a idea for smoothing the out would be to find a set of carbon fiber covers that are scratched and you can paint them.
I think it would be hard to sand the originals smooth without them being wavy.

I'd thought about painting some carbon ones, but it'd be an expensive exercise. Trying to do on the cheap if possible. Anyone have some cheap carbon ones? Or, can someone tell me the cheapest supplier for carbon ones?
Cheers.

They can be had in fiberglass as well. I would research before ordering to make sure you don't get a pos set shipped all the way across the pond.

I've done some searching for f/glass ones with no luck. Can someone hook me up with a link to a seller.
