Michelin Pilot Pure Installed

Just got a new rear shoe fitted yesterday. Michelin's Pilot Pure 190/50ZR-17. Installed at my Kawi Dealer it was $199.00 for the tire and $85.00 to mount it. Going out now to break it in. Hope it lives up to the hype.

You guys local shops are raping you guys... $20-30 here, $40-50 I would understand... But $80 is freaking outrageous.

Yeah, I thought $85.00 was steep too. And get this.... I goet home and have a message to call the dealer who proceeded to ask me if I could "swing back by". When asked why I was told the mechanic thinks he may have forgotten to tighten the lock nuts on the rear adjusters. I checked, he did. so I tightened them up myself and fouund the two phillips screws holding the chain guard were also loose. Never again.
Anyway, back to the tire. I LOVE IT !!!!! Bike flicks quicker and seems to accelerate quicker too (perhaps thanks to a lighter weight/less gyroscopic effect?). My only reference on this bike is the stock rear rubber which this replaced but these new Pures are WAAAAY better all around. After scuffing them in I hit a few hard corner exits off the freeway and the grip is excellent and turn in is very predictable. No tendancy to "fall over" into the turn yet no resistance or desire to "stand up" either, even under hard braking. Exiting a turn under power is a LOT less white knuckle inducing too thanks to the stickier shoulders of the dual compound tread which grip hard as you come up from your lean and transition to the harder center tread compound.
High speed passes of 150 to 170 mph were smooth as silk with no trace of vibration or any other speed induced gremlins.
Amazing how comfortable the tire is too in terms of a$$ fatigue which was nonexistent.
A+ in my book. Money well spent (except for the labor) lol.
Dammit. as I type right now, I got myself all excited and worked up and so I'm going out AGAIN. The wife is gonna kill me since I just got back but it's SOOOO nice outside right now!
See y/'all later!

Was at a track day yesterday & saw the pures on a Duc 848. They looked just like any race tire should, all gumballed up & sticky. Guy liked them fine.

you got all this feedback by just changing the rear tire?

FWIW, I don't let any shop touch my bike. Too many instances just like yours and having to PAY for substandard service. No thanks, I'll handle it myself. I at least CARE about my bike.

If it included removing the tire from the bike and then remounting it then 85 is probably about an hour of labor, pricey still but sounds a little better then just mounting the tire on the rim that was brought in for 85. I paid about 80 for mounted front and rear that I brought in.

With as much power on tap as the ZX-14 has, the rear tire has a LOT to do with the handling and turning characteristics of the bike. Coming out of a corner hard on the throttle, most of my "steering" is done with my REAR wheel either by leaning of by sliding/not sliding the bike. The front tire is barely (if at all) touching the ground.

In my case the shop had to remove the wheel as well. I didn't take it off (lazy) and I wanted an excuse to visit the dealer to look at "what's new". I wasn't impressed.

There's a local shop here that will change tires for $20 each. ALL the local stealerships will not change a tire if you didn't buy it through them, no matter what you offer them; I guess they want to reap all the mark up dollars too.

I guess if you are lazy (your words) and you get your tire installed then that's all that matters, no matter the cost...
